“Mediocre hotel thriving off the airlines”

Stayed there for one night, on the expense of Continental airlines, due to a canceled flight.
The hotel felt old. My room had this musty smell, probably from the old carpets.
Otherwise it was OK clean.
I had two queen beds in the room - one had a lumpy worn out mattress, the kind you would get motion sickness from lying on. The other bed had an excessively firm mattress.
They have free WiFi, which is nice.
There is a cafeteria in the lobby, which is open 24/7 and is a true life saver at times - i.e. if you need a toothbrush. Stay away from the stale pastries, though.
Overall this is a mediocre hotel, which makes good business off canceled flights.

My husband and I had the unfortunate opportunity to stay at this hotel overnight. Upon our late arrival we were sent to a room that had dirty towels on the floor of the bathroom, an unmade bed, etc. The second room had a broken toilet that would not flush and a heating unit that did not work. The maintenance man arrived and we were shown the inside of the heating unit which was filled with dirt, lint and goodness only knows what else. We, once again, were given a third room.....and were taken to that room by the maintenance man (we were in our night clothes and totally exhausted by then) This fiasco was not only unexpected but poorly handled from start to finish. We would warn other travelers to avoid this establishment and also avoid using Expedia as an agent. Neither Expedia or the hotel had the decency and good business ethic to make some compensation for this inappropriate
treatment.

Room Tip: Avoid at all costs.

I must apologize for the inconvenience you suffered while staying at the Ramada Plaza. As I am sure you have read from our other guests who have stayed since we took over 5 months ago we have made tremendous strides to improve the overall quality of the hotel. From cleanliness to repairs to our genuine caring about our guests comfort and satisfaction. All of our rooms go through a very stringent preventive maintenance program and the hotel is currently under renovations. A room will not be sold that has not been inspected for cleanliness and mechanical issues.

With regards to Expedia it is a leading booking portal and 100% of the time will call the hotel if a guest has a discrepency or an issue with a stay, which we take very seriously, investigate and address.

I would like to discuss with you further the extent of the issues and who they were reported too, as my entire team is trained to deal with issues and concerns at the moment they occur. Any further information you can give me would be very helpful.

“You get what you pay for”

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel Dec 30-Jan 5. Upon arriving at the airport the shuttle came fairly quickly. I was not impressed with the driver as he did not offer anyone help with their bags, something which I have not come across before. It was a quick ride to the airport and we were checked in fairly quickly to our room we had booked through expedia. We had requested a king size bed, and found ourselves in a room with two doubles. The TV was old and it was quite cold in the room as if the A/C had been turned on. The beds were clean and we did a check for bed bugs, which we did not find any sign of. Our toilet ended up not having water in the tank and we had to go downstairs to the front desk to get assistance as calling the front desk resulted in no one answering the phone. A handyman was in the lobby so came up right away and within ten minutes had fixed the water issue. The room was satisfactory and we did not have any issues with noise. We spent NYE in the hotel after a day in the city and went to the restaurant on site around 11 pm. We were disgusted with the service as even though there were not many people in the restaurant, the waitress we had obviously had friends/family hanging out at a table there and after getting our food we saw her sitting with them. It took over 10 min for her to even notice we were done our food (which was mediocre). We were too tired to bother complaining but did not leave a tip and did not return for a second meal. We took a shuttle through a company that had advertised at the hotel for trips into the city for $25 round trip a couple of the days. I did not notice his sign up on our third day. We almost took a cab to the newark penn station which was $25 for two people and ended up just taking the shuttle to the airport and taking the train from there ($12.50 one way). When we went to take the shuttle from the airport back to the hotel one night we waited a half an hour before calling the hotel (the phone line says it comes every 20 min which is not true it is on a half hour schedule) to find out where the shuttle was and they indicated that you have to call to have it come (which it did within 2 min of our phone call). That part was not very clear as it leaves the hotel every half hour on the hour.

I would recommend staying here to say yourself some money if you are looking to visit new york city cheaply. It is not located near anything within walking distance so once you get there you are kind of stuck in the way of food. I did not find the hotel front desk overly helpful as you pretty much had to be specific with asking about how to get into the city as they did not offer up suggestions on the easiest/cheapest/fastest way.

I apologize for the lack fo customer service you received from our shuttle driver while being picked up and the FD regarding your NY trip and will discuss the service you received at the restaurant with the F&B team, I will look into this and rectify immediately, your feedback is appreciated.

The wing of rooms you described are currently under a total renovations plan beginning with the upper floors, all of our rooms will be completely renovated with modernized technology, new bedding packages and exciting new decor. We hope you come back to visit when we are complete.

We are making tremendous strides to make this hotel great again for our guests such as yourself. It will take some time but we will get there and promise to make The Ramada Plaza a hotel our team and guests will be proud of.

My friends and I chose this hotel because of the price (50$ USD per night) and stayed 3 nights! Our room was a perfect size for 4 and clean. We would go to NYC by car every day and if I remember correctly, the parking cost 8 or 9$ a day. We also heard of a shuttle bus that went from the hotel to the city a few times a day. Staff wasn't too friendly in the hotel, but our waitress at the downstairs restaurant that served us during our stay was very sweet! Only problem we had was when we came back to the hotel one night around 1 a.m, there was some sort of party in the hotel and not ONE parking space left and had to go back out and move the car around 3 a.m.

It seems you stayed prior to my company taking over. Stayed here as an airport stopover for a number of years, so I was surprised at the improvement in the quality of the room. It would appear that they have started to redecorate the rooms. We had a comfortable stay and the staff were polite and welcoming (another improvement). No complaints and an overall improvement.

It is extremely rewarding to have a guest such as you, who witnessed the decline of the hotel from 2009 until mid 2011, to come back since we took over in Aug. 2011 and see how we were able to transform this hotel back to a welcoming place to stay.
