“Courtyard is a cheaper stay alternative to NYC if you're flying in”

I typically stay at the Courtyard Marriott when traveling in and out of the Newark Airport when I have to catch an early flight or if I get in late. I also use it when business meetings start early in NYC and I don't feel like paying NYC prices.
If you know the area, getting to the hotel is OK, but if you're not familiar- I recommend calling the hotel and getting specific directions from your location. While the hotel is located on the 1&9 south (one way), you have to take the 1&9 north to get there from the airport.
As for the hotel itself, the lobby has been recently updated which is nice, but the hotel rooms themselves remain a bit out dated. I personally think they can use a refresh, but maybe I'm a bit too critical. Realistically, for the price you pay for a room at the courtyard in this area, the value is certainly there.
My only negative comment about this place would be that if you arrive late, there isn't a room service offering. You'll have to visit the 24hr. pantry for sub-par cafeteria type food.

Room Tip: CALL AHEAD FOR DIRECTIONS IF YOU AREN'T FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA. GPS systems have a very difficu...

If you are a fan of Courtyard this is just what you expect. The hotel is within 5 minutes of Newark Airport. I stayed here and made it to Time Square in 40 minutes by rental car.

“Good solid hotel, clean comfy, friendly staff”

We stayed here for 1 night before our cruise out of the nearby cruise ship terminal. The hotel is fine, but the only place to eat is the hotel bistro unless you have a car or are willing to take a Taxi. The staff arranged for a car to take us to the cruise ship the next day ($40). The shuttle from the airport was free. This place would be pretty bleak if you were staying longer as the neighborhood is pretty airport/industrial.

“Great for a stay before or after your flight”

We chose this location because of it's "park & fly" option. Check in was quick and easy and we were really impressed with the lobby. There wasn't a traditional restaurant, instead there was a bar area that served a limited menu of freshly prepared food which could be eaten at various tables and counters in the lobby. There were TVs and monitors with useful information for business and travelers. The whole effect was very modern and classy. The room itself was fine. There was a love seat and small working area, and I've always loved Marriott's beds. The one odd thing was we had a number of small square bed pillows instead of the standard pillows we're used to. The shuttle service to and from the airport ran on time.

“Pleasant surprise!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

I was expecting the worst for a Newark Airport Hotel. I must say, my experience here was far better than the one I had at the Wyndham 2 weeks later! The Lobby is gorgeous and the room was great. The staff seemed to be a bit unhappy. Overall- a positive experience. I would stay here again.
