“Survived the snow storm of Oct 2011 at this Residence Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

We booked a room here during the halloween snow storm of 2011 when we were without heat and power for almost a week; we live about 40 miles north of this location.

The two bedroom/two bath was perfect for our family of four with two young kids, one in a pack n' play, and a dog. The lofted bedroom had a queen bed, decent sized closet, it's own 25in plasma TV and bathroom with bathtub....it was a great place for our 5yr old to "camp out" for the four nights we were there. The main level had a kitchen with fridge, stove top, oven, microwave, coffee maker and all the cooking accesories we needed. The dining area was fine, a little small for four but fine. The living room are was good sized with fireplace, large plasma TV, couch, chairs and tables. The main bedroom had a king bed, desk area with chair, large plasma TV, large closet and full bathroom with tub. The room was great for a family of four, dog friendly (for $100 fee for the entire stay) and pretty reasonable for $200 per night....including breakfast, wifi and a nightly manager special.

The staff were very friendly and accomodating given the influx of people that were there as we were, somewhat last minute. The staff handled a lot of challenges, and challenging people, very professionally and were a delight to deal with.

The breakfast was fine, not worth detailing but standard bagels, cereal, pancakes/eggs potatoes buffet style, fresh fruit and yogurt. The manager's event at night varied a bit and I only grabbed a taco one night at the "make your own taco" bar, it was good.

The location is great, just a five minute drive to downtown Princeton which has plenty of restaurants and stores to walk around. Closer to the hotel are a ton of retail stores (Target, Home Depot, CVS, a ton of chain restaurants), one of the largest outdoor malls I've ever heard of is about five miles away.

The one possible negative is that it's a little tricky to get into the hotel area from RT 1, you just need to follow the signs but you actually pass the hotel well before seeing the entrance....it's a little confusing the first time but it's actually pretty simple once you know where you're going.

We really enjoyed our stay at this residence inn and would recommend if you needed to be in the area.

You found the right place to "survive" the storm! Thanks for choosing our experienced Team. You note our great value, of course, but I love the highlight on the professional and delightful manner in which the staff weathered the storm. Being the largest Residence Inn in NJ, we have more VETERAN Associates than some competitors have TOTAL Associates! Thanks again!

“Awful location, poorly designed streets and entrance, heavy traffic, older rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011 via mobile

If you're going north on Rt 1, you can't get there. It's on the other side of a divided highway. So the next intersection should let you turn around right? Wrong, that's a divided highway, too. So you have to turn into a small business and turn around in a parking lot, then go back through 2 lights to get back on Rt 1. But even when you're on the correct side of the highway coming up on the hotel, there's no entrance. So you have to go past the hotel, turn on a side street and wind your way back to the hotel from behind it. It's astonishing how stupid it is arranged.

And since this is NJ, it's totally overpriced and a poor value. The rooms appear to have been updated 5 to 7 years ago, but the building I was in was at least 20 years old. The sidewalks were cracked, the outside door had 10 coats of paint and didn't shut properly, all the floors creaked, and there was a general musty smell. Oddly, my towels seemed brand new and were fluffy and in good shape. At least that was pleasant. The internet was functional, but lagged at times. The staff was professional and polite, but didn't exude a warm, welcoming feel.

There didn't seem to be any new hotels in the area, so next time I'm here I don't know what I'll do unless I want to pay even more exuberant prices and stay at the Princeton Marriott, which I passed on my way to this Residence Inn about 5-8 miles down Rt 1 (but 15 min in traffic and stop lights). Probably better off paying for the Marriott just to avoid the vortex of idiotic thruway and street designs around this hotel.

Thanks for fighting the NJ Traffic designs! In the 12 years since I've arrived here, I've yet to find ONE HOTEL with a simple "exit location." U.S. 1 is part of the ORIGINAL U.S. postal routes from 1673 but who knows why "Garmin" didn't ask "Franklin" when programming the GPS's??? Fortunately, our DIRECTIONS EXPERTS are reachable by phone 24 hrs/day!

“Perfect port in a storm...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

After the recent hurricane, my apartment was powerless for days... and the basement of the building had 5 feet of water in it. Clearly, alternate accommodations were called for. I wrote on their Facebook page at 11pm, and their GM confirmed for me that there were rooms available. Next morning, after an easy breezy check-in, I was set up in a perfect studio... which had all the creature comforts of home. 4 nights later, when all was well back at my apartment, I was actually sad to leave my temporary home.

Having been one of our AVID Social Media followers long BEFORE you had even stayed with us, it was a pleasant surprise to be able to "rescue you" from our Facebook Page at 11pm. The reason saddened me (of course), but it was a pleasure having you in our "real community" after knowing you a while in our "virtual community."

“Perfect for the road warrior...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

Great hotel and very much a home away from home for the road warrior. I travel between VA and NJ on a regular basis for work, and I've stayed at this location for easily 100 nights so far this year.

The staff is for the most part great (especially Taleeka at the front desk) and Scott (the manager) is always working to make sure his people treat guests the right way. There are quite a few times when my kids have joined me for a couple of extra days away, and the staff really makes them feel at home. Making s'mores in the firepit was a fun experience for all of us.

Rooms are clean, comfortable, and stocked with what's needed for a frequent traveler. Free wi-fi is a plus, but speeds can sometimes be on the slow side. Don't expect to watch Netflix or YouTube from your room.

Gym is clean, machines are new, and open 24-7. Pool in the summer is great, but no jacuzzi is a bit of a bummer. Breakfast in the mornings is pretty good, enough variety and grab-and-go items are available. Evening snack can fill in for a dinner, especially if you've had a good lunch, and there are grocery stores within a 3 minute drive of the hotel if you prefer to stock your full-size fridge and freezer. Only complaint about the food service and mini-mart: no Coke products (I'm not a Pepsi fan, sorry)

Again, it's a great place to stay and I highly recommend it to any traveler in the area.

Room Tip: second floor is better for light sleepers, but no elevators mean you'll have to carry your lugga...

We appreciate you on EVERY VISIT. As you've noted, the "Road Warriors" prefer our Classic "Community Style" Residence Inn over the "blahs" of typical Box-Shaped hotels. Whether you're staying 1 night or 1 year (or a year of 1 nights), we love the LOYALTY of those that choose our "family" over being a "number" somewhere else. See you again soon!

“Great Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

With two teenage boys (17 and 18) we opted for the two bedroom suite. This room, directly from Marriott website using a weekend stay rate, was a great deal - less than a nearby Holiday Inn that wanted $10/person for 3rd and 4th guest, and the Holiday Inn does not provide a free breakfast. We were thrilled with our choice. One bedroom was a loft with its own bathroom, the living room also had a pullout, and my wife and I had our own bedroom and bathroom. It also had a full kitchen, we used the fridge to stock drinks and fruit. The extra bathroom helped to get us all moving more quickly in the morning, and we really like the extra space this room provided.
The small workout area was excellent, 2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, 1 bike and some free weights - all new and all working perfectly.
The breakfast was fresh, not a huge variety, but enough to satisfy and get you on your way.
CRITICAL info...the hotel is actually a series of small buildings, so there are no elevators, but some rooms are on the second floor, so ask for a ground floor if you need to avoid stairs. Also, ask to be in buildings 1 -8 in order to be close to the breakfast in the morning. The property is not that big, so none are too far away from the main building.

Room Tip: ask for rooms in buildings 1 - 8

Love having families enjoy the "Great Value" of staying with us (especially the "Senior Reviewers" on TripAdvisor). They just don't build hotels like our "Residence Inn Community" anymore and we love having that great advantage over our competitors. As you note, we typically offer our short-term guests accommodations closer to the breakfast while our "residents" enjoy the spacious courtyard strolls!
