I needed a place to stay very close to Staten Island as my plan to stay with a friend for the night fell through. Traveling with a dog that weighs 100 pound can put a damper on any emergency hotel plans. I needed to find a pet friendly hotel, quick! So after checking on the internet, my only option was Extended Stay, Edison-Raritan. When I called the desk person was a bit curt, and didn't seem to know much of anything. Upon arriving to a completely full parking lot, which was dingy and dark, I noticed a few seedy types outside. Upon entering the dingy, dark tiny lobby the curt woman appeared. She complained about having to work the night shift.and was bothered by me asking for a room. She made it so obvious that she was doing me a favor by doing her job. Observing allot of people coming and going through the lobby, I was a bit concerned. The people that were coming and going through the lobby were not guests of the hotel and were there to visit guests. Hummm, makes sense being there was a full parking lot. I questioned my decision to stay there. I wanted a shower and a bed! I was charged the $25.00 fee for having my dog, which I really wasn't too thrilled about, but I was in a bind and really had no choice. My bill for one night stay came to $138.00. I also had to pay extra for the internet service. That pissed me off!. After driving over 9 hours with the dog, spending the day on Staten Island in 95 degree temperatures, I was cooked. Upon entering my room all I wanted was a shower and a bed. Turned to double lock the door and realized there was no additional lock. I was going to go back downstairs and ask for a different room, but going back down meant taking the dog and having to deal with Ms. Curt again. I was a bit surprised when I saw the room was decent. Didn't smell or wasn't noticeably dirty. The bed seemed comfortable, and the pillows were decent. The air conditioner worked okay, but it seemed low and high were the same speed, so it took a while for the room to cool off. Yay! A coffee pot in the room! I decided to make myself a cup of coffee and relax with my dog. The coffee pot didn't work, so I fiddled with it a bit and got it to work although it did leak some grimy water from the bottom of the machine. Got right on the internet with no difficulties. Well, it should be that way being I had to pay for it. The toilet also ran and ran till I had to fiddle with the handle to make it stop. So far, so good. The shower was great and I got a good nights sleep. In the morning, I made some more coffee and took the dog out. The day (morning staff) were very welcoming and friendly. Completely different from the night shift. There were a few people coming and going at that time and the parking lot seemed empty. I am convinced that this is a party all night place to stay. Someone gets the room and then its ON! I wasn't really concerned about safety. I have a huge "trained" dog and take care of my own personal security. I will have to be making monthly trips back to Staten Island and need a place to stay for one night. I will try not to stay here because of the expense. I found them to be outrageously priced for really nothing to write home about. If you are not in a bind, don't have a pet, and have the means, don't stay here. There are many other hotels which offer much much more at the same or cheaper rate.
