“Stay away from the Crystal Inn”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

Ok so the only reason my partner and I stayed in the hotel was because we were chartering a boat at 6am the next morning and all we needed was a quick stay. This place was pretty much the only one with vacancy left so we took it. Upon checking in, I knew this was going to be an interesting stay. The check-in clerk didn't acknowledge us when we entered the room, probably because she was too busy being rude to a customer on the phone. All the customer wanted was directions to the hotel and the clerk proceeded to talk to her like she was an idiot. Then the clerk's cell phone went off, playing some loud rap crap, and she never bothered to turn it off. Oh and the lobby smells like urine.
All of the rooms overlook the pool, which is the only nice thing about this place. It's a decent size and it appeared to be clean. Our room was clean, but very much outdated. The dead bolt didn't lock, which was a bit uneasy. The water had a very strong odor of dirt, which I couldn't understand. Despite it all, we did have a comfortable night's sleep and enjoyed our dinner at Red Lobster.

“Thanks for Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2011

I stayed here a couple of months ago with some friends. The rooms were so big and fit us all. The continental breakfast was amazing, thank you for that. I will be back next year.

“worst excuse for a business ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2010

so, after camping for 4 days, i couldn't wait to continue my vacation and sleep in an actual bed. well, i got to the hotel and went to check in. the price was more than expedia had said it would be. i tried to explain this to the guy who was working the desk, and he got mad at me and started to speak louder and more rudely to me basically saying...too bad, it is what it is. i was too tired to deal with it, and decided to talk to them again tomorrow. preferably somebody nicer than him. we got to the room. the back door that was right next to the parking lot didn't work, and we had to walk around to the other side. when we got into the room, the faucet was dripping all night, there was some weird blue stuff caked onto the blanket, the light above the mirror was hardly working, and the light fixture next t my side of the bad was practically hanging off the wall and wouldn't turn on, and the people upstairs sounded like elephants. we went to sleep, and in the morning i went to get the free breakfast which consisted of a couple donuts, some cereal (no milk left) and there was one banana left. there was a girl in there and she asked (the same guy from the night before) if anything else came with the breakfast. he said what? (there was a language barrier), she asked...is there any french toast, pancakes, anything? he ignored her. she got mad...another guy behind the desk said that he didn't understand because of the language barrier, and she said...he should have said he didn't understand instead of just ignoring me. she was very angry, righfully so. anyway, the rest of the stay wasn't too bad. the afternoon girl was much more helpful in explaining that there are 3 taxes on hotels in nj and sometimes expedia doesn't include that in their total. she gave good directions for my destination for that night. so, i checked out on tuesday morning. fastforward to thurs morning at work. i went onto my bank account online. not only did they charge me the price for the room, but they put in a 2nd charge for $68.94. i have no idea what that is for. i tried to call them for 3 days. the guy i talked to the first day said he would check with someone and call me back and never did. i called the next day. the girl i talked to said she would call me back in a couple of hours. she didn't and i called back again. she said she would call me right back. she called back a couple hours later and said they have no record of this charge, and i need to contest it with my bank. so...almost a week after checking out, i'm still down $70 for a charge that i shouldn't have, plus a $35 overdraft fee from my bank. i may just have to eat this $105...or else the bank said they'd put a fraud charge in...crystal inn sucks!!!!!!

I am very sorry to hear that the experience you had with us was not as pleasant as it could be. We are continually renovating our rooms and property, and strive to make certain that our rooms are clean and comfortable. Also, we do serve a complimentary cold breakfast and the desk attendant will gladly refill any items such as juice, coffee, or milk, when they are empty.
As for the extra charge, I will work to rectify this situation as quickly as possible. Once again I apologize that your stay was not as good as it could have been for you, but if you are willing to give us another chance we would love to make it up to you!

“OK for the price”

We stayed here because it was the only hotel in the area with vacancies. The hotel is old and dated but clean and comfortable. We did have a bit of noise from people stomping around on the floor above us. There's a nice courtyard with a pool and BBQ grills. It's fairly convenient to the shore. Parking was free as was the wireless internet. The free "breakfast" consisted of your choice of powdered donuts or cereal.

“Crystal Inn bed bugs!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2009

I work for the Army while on travel to Fort Monmouth which is across the street from Crystal Inn. In room 216 I was attacked by BED BUGS!! I caught like 10 bedbugs for proof to show the owner. The owner or manager did not seemed to be amazed. So there may be more rooms infested with those blood suckers. Oh yeah I did not get a refund.

I am very sorry to hear that your experience with us was not a positive one. Bed bugs are an issue that we take very seriously, and we would never want to jeopardize the health of anyone who stays at our establishment. That is why we have had to hire a new pest management company. Although the brand we previously used was a well known company, it came to our attention that they had been cutting corners at a detriment to us. We have now educated ourselves to take a proactive stance against bed bugs to ensure that all of our rooms are safe for our guests. This means not only closing rooms with a possible infestation to guests, but continually checking and maintaining to make certain that no new problems arise.

I am uncertain as to why you did not receive a refund, because in this type of a circumstance I would not refuse you one. As a manager, I am always available to discuss any concerns or comments that guests may have.
