“really really average”

Read all the reviews posted and thought I'd add my two cents since I'm still staying at the ESA. IMO, they get all types at this facility. There are people who're basically living there, long-term business travelers like myself and overnighters. If you're there long-term, the staff is very friendly and helpful. For example, the digital tv switchover was a problem over this past weekend, some of the tvs had been adjusted and others not. I checked in after 8pm on a Sunday night and the desk clerk was dealing with several irate customers who'd just checked in only to find they could not view the local channels (there was a playoff game on ABC that night). My tv was fixed within an hour of my check-in so I was happy. Other guests may not have had the same experience, depending on how nice they were to the clerk. As far as cleanliness and maintenance goes, I haven't had any issues that were not quickly resolved. For the price, I would say you shouldn't expect more. It's like anything else, you get what you pay for.

“Ew”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2008

This property is gross and far too seedy for my taste. It smells stale, it looks filthy and old; and the "suite" we were given looks like a cheap studio apartment some guy friends had when I was in college. I was ashamed to have booked this place.
The only nice part was that after the women at night booked my room incorrectly and overcharged me by $20, the day manager immediately credited my account and refunded the overcharge.
I'd NEVER stay here again.
EVER.

“Beware -- they close at 11:00 p.m.!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2008

I made a 1-night reservation one day in advance; I spoke directly with the property and not with a national call center. I explained that I wouldn't be checking-in until about midnight, and I was told there was no problem with that.

When my wife and I arrived at 11:30 p.m., we found the lobby was locked from the outside. There was a vestibule with a telephone and a sign that stated the lobby's hours were 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. There was an extension to call in "emergencies," so I called. An employee let us into the lobby. She told me she was not informed of any late check-ins for that night. She unlocked the front desk area and searched for my paperwork, and there was none (that is, no key left for us). She told us she could let us in a room with a pass key but that she could not make a key for us, and that we'd have to settle things with the front desk in the morning. I was unwilling to stay in a room without having a key to that room. If we wanted to leave for a late-night bite to eat, we would have had to go to that vestibule phone again, wake up that poor woman again, and have her unlock our room for us. No thank you.

We decided to try our luck at a different property, and were successful.

I called the manager the next morning from my "other" hotel room. She was hardly apologetic. She repeately mentioned, in a rather robotic manner, that the front desk closes at 11:00 p.m., as if it were an obvious fact that everyone knows. I told her that her reservations staff should be trained to explain this to guests, as it is not a standard practice in the hospitality industry.

I was very lucky to be in a suburban area at the junction of two major highways (New Jersey Turnpike and I-295), as there were several other hotels to choose from that night, and I was lucky that the first one I checked with had a room available at that late hour.

I chose ESA because it was the lowest-cost property in the immediate area, and all I needed was a clean, quiet and safe place to rest for the night.

Based on the untrained staff member who took my reservation, and the general manager who implied that I should have known better than to arrive after they closed for the night, I will never stay at this property again, and will not recommend it to others.

“Clean, average rooms, difficult driving pattern”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2006

Stayed for a week in mid October. Clean room, clean small kitchen, no stove. I did not like two things, one is that they have no relationship with any area gyms (like some ESA hotels do) even though within 3 miles there are 2 or 3 large gyms. And two, it is VERY difficult to make a left turn on Route 70 (if you want to go towards Philadelphia). You have to drive over a 1/2 mile in the opposite direction (east) and find an intersection that will allow you to go west on Rt. 70. I found that very frustrating in the morning rush hour, and will try to stay in a hotel on the other side of the street in the future. I think the hotel should at least have instructions posted at the front desk for how to go west on 70.

The room did not have a dishwasher or oven. However, it did have a stove and microwave oven. The chairs in the room had not been wiped down (obviously children with dirty hands stayed there before us) and the bathroom sink/counter had not been cleaned, there was actually toothpaste in the sink. Other than this, we had a quiet and peaceful stay. This is an average hotel.
