Our usual high-end hotel in Cape May is not open in the month of January and we don't usually get away so deep into the off-season. These rates were SO low I was concerned that it would not be as nice as advertised but we booked a room because I liked the reviews and have always been happy with hotels when Trip Advisor reviewers agree. We were very happy with our stay, starting with the cozy office and pleasant, cheerful woman who checked us in. The 2-room suite was spacious - more than I expected - and everything was very clean and looked recently remodeled: no odors or 'cover up' smells, clean edges (woodwork, caulking), spic-n-span kitchen area with new-style countertops, similar in bathroom - with a nicely-tiled surround tub/shower...even the ceiling. Better yet were all the little touches that made you feel welcome and instantly relaxed after the trip to get there, like the room was prepared for our visit: heat was on and cozy, fridge was cold, water was hot right away - no waiting. Our usual place has private balconies, right-on-the beach views and peaceful surroundings farther from the commercial zone. We didn't give up too much because Camelot has a balcony (though not private) and beach views (just 100 yards or so from the beach) and quiet because it's set back from the main road - but only about HALF the cost. It was nice to be closer to the main shopping and eating areas because there are no crowds in January to get away from! Our stay was only for a short weekend but I could easily have been happy there for a week or more - the room was more like a small apartment and a family of four would not have been cramped. I can't can't say how it would be in high season but we'll likely return here again, even after our usual hotel reopens. We saved enough to splurge on lobster for dinner :-) and still felt like a cheap weekend.
