We stayed at the palace hotel the 3erd week of june. The main reason we stayed was because it was pet friendly. We have never taken our pets,so this was a first, and had some reservations about doing it, but it could not have worked out better for us. I am sure there are better places to stay,but being able to have your pets with you on vacation was well worth it. The place was very clean, and did not smell of pets at all. The breakfast room was totally awesome too. Parking was limited, but we made the best of that too. I suppose if you take a pet, then you have to be a little forgiving on some things. The staff seemed very friendly and the pet area even had clean up bags for the dogs too. I am sure some of the critical reviews of this place are from poeple with a caddalac taste and a chevy budget, so deal with it or stay somewhere else. we made the best of things and had a great time !. First, I'll start by saying I was very afraid to stay at the Palace Hotel due to all the negative reviews but being that my boyfriend booked late in the season we didn't have much of a choice (it was there or nowhere). I have no major complaints with this hotel. The room was outdated but it was also clean. Breakfast is your typical continental buffet nothing fancy but serves it's purpose when traveling esp. with kids. Loved that the room had a balcony (if you looked to your left you got an "ocean view") & also had a refrig., microwave, cabinets, etc. I do have some minor complaints but nothing that would keep me from not returning. When we got to our room, I noticed the housekeeper left a tip envelope, which I just find rude to see just about anywhere. The tv remote was broken (hard to get the tv to change channels) & very out dated but who goes on vacation to watch t.v.? The room had a king & full bed. The king was great for me but the full wasn't very pratcical for my squirmy 4 1/2 year old and 11 year old. I wish the rooms had 2 queens instead. Mattresses were fine (usually I get no sleep at a hotel but didn't have much of a problem here). Our room didn't get cleaned til about 3p.m. I think they did the check outs first bc the housekeeper was in the room next door to us around 10 am but never made it to our room til much later. Since we just got back (stayed late in the season) we had no problem with parking. I could see parking being a problem in the middle of summer but isn't that Cape May for you? There is metered & non metered parking on the streets. Metered parking is free after 10pm (I forgot til what time in the morning). A bit of a walk (or a very quick drive) to everything but no big deal. Loved that the beach & bathroom was literally right across the street. Our trip was cut short due to a mandatory evacuation (for hurricane Irene). We had to leave Friday a.m.. My son left behind his D.S.. I couldn't get a hold of anyone after we checked out due to the evacuation. I called today (Monday) & spoke to Amy & she called me back within one hour of my call to say they found it. I'll be going down to UPS today to schedule a pick up & shipment to my home. We'll be refunded for the 2 nights we didn't stay. All the hotel workers were very nice & helpful. Don't be wary of this place, some people are just overly critical.

Stayed in Palace Hotel for one nite on long weekend in August 2011...Palace Hotel is on water, reasonably priced and pretty clean, but old, very basic, dated rooms and lacks amenities. Lack of adequate parking is a real problem because parking is always tight near water and meters are expensive. Hotel should have at least one park per room, and should be numbered. Desk clerks are pretty disinterested, don't seem to want to help if you have problems....better choices up Beach Drive include the Grand, Montreal, Beach Shack. Stayed at the Grand for rest of stay...much better for slightly more $.

The room was dirty and the A/C didn't work. The staff was beyond rude and over charged us $90.00 over the quoted price that we recieved on email. Beware, there is little to no parking. The next day, which was or last day, they said the mantaince man said there was nothing wrong with the A/C. We told them we were not going to stay in that room again and for them to get us another room for the night. To which they refused and charge us for the room anyway. That night I went back and knocked on our room door ( I told the man who answered "I must have the wrong room") and they had rented it to someone else. Not bad collecting twice on one room. I called my credit card company(, faxed our emails from this hotel from Hell,) and our credit card Co. refunded our money. DO NOT STAY HERE !
