“Rest and Enjoy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We spent a few fall days in this lovely quaint hotel. Our very clean room was on the second floor with a lovely view of the Atlantic Ocean. If you've forgotten anything, such as shampoo, etc. just ask at the desk and it will be provided. The hotel employees were all extremely helpful and cordial. There is a wonderful breakfast/lunch restaurant on the street level where you may sit at one of their inside/outside tables or take your food up to the hotel's lovely porch. For dinner you could go for a short walk to any of the wonderful restaurants in Cape May or just stay at the very delicious Union Park restaurant right in the hotel. With the Atlantic Ocean right in front of you, Hotel Macomber is a wonderful choice.

Room Tip: If steps are a problem, ask for a room on the second or third floors.

“shady business practices & rude staff”

They take your credit card information & have you sign a waiver stating if you smoke in the room you'll be charged an extra $100.00 above the cost of the room.
Then when you don't smoke in the room, you still get charged the extra $100.00 when your credit card statement comes in a month later. When you try to speak with the manager Crystal, she's very rude & literally calls you a liar on the phone & ripps you off the $100.00.I'm really suprised crystal still keeps a job there with her poor customer service skills.Looking at the other customers reviews about this hotel, I'm not the only customer that feels this way. They need to look into employees/maids trying to sneak an extra smoke break in prior to their scheduled smoke break. Either that or someone's lining their pockets with 100 dollar bills from unaware out of town customers. Very shady business dealings & bad experience,BEWARE!

Room Tip: Go elsewhere.

“Nice property, great price”

Cute hotel with cozy rooms and a great location. There were some quirks to the rooms, but that is to be expected in a period hotel. Hauling suitcases to the top floor was a workout. While we were warned of the situation, were we unprepared for the number of flights to get to the top. One large suitcase was a mistake. Help with the luggage would have made the stay perfect. The staff was full of great suggestions for meals and things to do. This was extremely helpful since the weather was miserable. I would definitely stay at the Macomber again. I'd just bring multiple smaller bags.

This is a very nice 100 year old boutique hotel facing the beach, but we were put on the fourth floor without any warning ahead of time that there were no elevators. We had to drag our suitcases up 7 flights of stairs. f I had known ahead of time I would have packed a back pack for the two night stay. The walls are very thin as well.

“Lovely Victorian hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

We stayed at the Macomber in June. Were upgraded to a double queen room which was lovely. The old fashioned sink in the room worked out well for us because one could be showering while another of us was doing make-up or hair. Our room included a small fridge and coffee pot. The front porch provided rocking chairs, round tables with chairs and a nice view of the boardwalk and ocean. My only complaint was having to lug my suitcase up three flights of stairs. I understand that elevators were not common in these old hotels, but having someone able to carry luggage upstairs for us would have been nice.

I would stay here again, but ask for a room on a lower floor or for assistance getting my bag upstairs.

Room Tip: Rooms in the front of the hotel have a small porch and views of the ocean.
