Carroll Villa is a charming Victorian B&B. It is large enough (I think 20 some rooms) to allow you to do your own thing or socialize with the other guests. Having the Mad Batter (think incredible pancakes at breakfast) restaurant on-site is a huge plus. The restaurant serves upscale food for all meals with generous portions. They willingly accommodate substitutions and even have some vegan menu items and can change non-vegan items to make them vegan. Sitting half a block back from the beach, the Carroll Villa is close to the beach on Jackson Street (very nice street) and also is a few minute walk to an upscale outdoor shopping plaza. Parking is an issue everywhere in Cape May but having a city created loading zone in front of the Carroll Villa makes loading/unloading a breeze! Each room is unique in decor, size and furnishings. We went this past weekend (19 degrees and windy at night) While the property was built in 1882 (?), individual controlled radiator heat is abundant!! It felt sooo good. The towels, bed sheets, pillows, and comforter were thoughtful comfortable, and nice. We had a good night's sleep. Flat screen TV with direct TV gives you an abundant number of channels. As a family owned B&B, they (and the staff) take a personal interest in the property details and guests. They have a large selection of books, magazines, newspapers and a sitting lounge area for guests to socialize in front of a flat screen TV and fireplace. The bar is in the connected restaurant so top shelf drinks are not far away. The views from the Cupola are wonderful!
Equally pleasing were the staff. They are thoughtful, think of the little things, genuine and nice Some of them are locals from birth and can provide invaluable information to make your visit outside the property the best that it can be.
It doesn't have an elevator. No big deal for us but could be important for some guests. Although, as a period Victorian, it keeps the character of the era and most home didn't and still don't have elevators anyway. They offered to help us with luggage but again not a big deal, we were staying for a long weekend not moving in. The time went quick. We reluctantly checked out at the end of our visit!
