“Very Nice!!”

Carroll Villa is a charming Victorian B&B. It is large enough (I think 20 some rooms) to allow you to do your own thing or socialize with the other guests. Having the Mad Batter (think incredible pancakes at breakfast) restaurant on-site is a huge plus. The restaurant serves upscale food for all meals with generous portions. They willingly accommodate substitutions and even have some vegan menu items and can change non-vegan items to make them vegan. Sitting half a block back from the beach, the Carroll Villa is close to the beach on Jackson Street (very nice street) and also is a few minute walk to an upscale outdoor shopping plaza. Parking is an issue everywhere in Cape May but having a city created loading zone in front of the Carroll Villa makes loading/unloading a breeze! Each room is unique in decor, size and furnishings. We went this past weekend (19 degrees and windy at night) While the property was built in 1882 (?), individual controlled radiator heat is abundant!! It felt sooo good. The towels, bed sheets, pillows, and comforter were thoughtful comfortable, and nice. We had a good night's sleep. Flat screen TV with direct TV gives you an abundant number of channels. As a family owned B&B, they (and the staff) take a personal interest in the property details and guests. They have a large selection of books, magazines, newspapers and a sitting lounge area for guests to socialize in front of a flat screen TV and fireplace. The bar is in the connected restaurant so top shelf drinks are not far away. The views from the Cupola are wonderful!

Equally pleasing were the staff. They are thoughtful, think of the little things, genuine and nice Some of them are locals from birth and can provide invaluable information to make your visit outside the property the best that it can be.

It doesn't have an elevator. No big deal for us but could be important for some guests. Although, as a period Victorian, it keeps the character of the era and most home didn't and still don't have elevators anyway. They offered to help us with luggage but again not a big deal, we were staying for a long weekend not moving in. The time went quick. We reluctantly checked out at the end of our visit!

Thanks for the wonderful review. It always brings a smile to your face when reading positive feedback with your first cup of coffee in the morning. As a third generation business, in a national landmark building we are proud to uphold a part of history of Cape May and to be a player in the hospitality business. Please say hello on your next visit...Mark Kulkowitz

“This was a great weekend getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

The staff was extremely nice and accommodating. The room had a good view to the beach and most of all very peaceful and relaxing. Last but not least the breakfast at the Mad Batter was delish! My husband and I plan on returning this spring or summer.

One of our favorite staff mottos is "roll out of bed and have one of the best breakfasts or lunch at the Mad Batter Restaurant"...We are glad that you enjoyed your stay....If you have not already done so try the Crab Benedict with Hollandaise sauce,,My favorite with fresh squeezed orange juice and our Mandeeling Sumatran coffee while sitting on the front porch. Hope to see you again. Mark Kulkowitz

“Our favorite place to stay”

We have been going to Cape May to celebrate New Years for quite a while and we always stay at the Carroll Villa. Lovely rooms in a great location, just a few steps from shopping and the beach. And the Mad Batter restaurant is right under roof. Also, the staff is friendly and helpful. Last year I had a medical emergency and found myself in the hospital for a few days, starting early on New Years morning. Kathi was very helpful in getting a room for my husband's unexpected extended stay. This year was pleasantly uneventful in the health department and we were able to enjoy the holiday. Looking forward to going again next New Years (if not before).

“Beautiful place to stay in a gorgeous town!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

The Carroll Villa is a wonderful place to stay. I stayed there recently with my now fiance. I notified the staff via email that I was planning on proposing to my girlfriend during our stay. They were very accommodating and ensured that everything went off without a hitch.

The hotel itself is very nice. We stayed in a room without a bathroom IN the room. We wouldn't choose to stay in that room again, but it was really not a big deal - we did have a private bathroom just down the hall.

All the staff we encountered was VERY friendly and helpful. We ate breakfast at the Mad Batter on the first morning of our trip. It was so good that we cancelled all of our other meal arrangements and ate all of our meals at the Mad Batter.

One small negative (which could not really be helped by the hotel) is that parking was several blocks away. Cape May is very small and walkable, so it was not an issue for us, but if you're planning to do a lot of driving, it could be a bit of a pain (especially if the weather is bad).

We had a fantastic weekend in Cape May and at the Carroll Villa, and look forward to staying here again!!!

Room Tip: If you can help it, get a room with a private bathroom.

“Winter Weekend Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We had an amazing time in Cape May this winter staying at the Carroll Villa Hotel because of the living social deal. The rooms were a little small, but this is made up for by the very, very comfortable feeling of a country home. Everything was updated like you would find in a modern hotel except the ambiance made you feel like you were in a different and more relaxed time. In addition, the staff couldn't have been nicer (from the receptionist to the manager to the staff at the Mad Batter). We would highly recommend a trip there to any couple of any age and would also highly recommend a trip on the ferry from Cape May to Lewes if possible with your travel.

I also like taking the ferry across from Delaware...One is always on the lookout for porpoises and stray German U boats from WWII-(just kidding). It is a great 90 minute ride along the bay and beats driving...You can even have a cocktail on board..We do have larger rooms so please look on the website to see all the choices....carrollvilla.com Please visit us again...Mark Kulkowitz
