“Quick Beach Trip”

The Belmar Motor Lodge is in a great location -- it is an older place that hasn't changed in years - but for the price, it is worth it. Booked this a few weeks prior to our visit - since we were arriving on a Sunday they didn't even take a credit card. Check in is at 1:00 which is nice to enjoy the whole day. There are vending/ice machine in front lobby, complitmentary coffee, books magazines on an honor system. Corner room had a nice view of the marina, flat screen TV, dated furniture - but it was fine for our 2 night stay. Bathroom was small, but clean. The pool overlooked the parking lot but it was refreshing and we enjoyed the day there with our own cooler. The location is great - walking distance to many restaurants, stores, etc. We stayed a Sunday & Monday to enjoy the beaches & local bars/restaurants. It was adequate close to everything for our needs.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room (ours was 201) with a view of the marina, it is a long walk down the hallway t...

“Good last minute place to stay if ur goin to Belmar on a whim.”

Place had basic necessities and thats it. Fortunately, they have a nice pool outside but unfortunetly, it closes at like 6 or 7 pm, so u can't use it at night, which would be awesome. Anyway, it's a motel not a hotel, so don't expect 5 star accommodations. But ppl were nice at front desk. Room was basic basic basic. Bars of soap in bathroom and plastic cups. You need to request a hair dryer, but at least it worked well. There's no mini fridge, but they have an ice machine. Basically, it's nice for what it is. It's right across the marina and the belmar nj transit train station is right behind it. It's right over the bridge so sunsets and headliner is only 45 seconds away lol. Oh don't forget, Bar A needs two forms of photo ID to get in , u'll have better luck as a girl like I did with just one, but they're hard on the guys and it's not even much more different than goin out to the back of Porterhouse In white plains to be quite honest lol anyway, the motor lodge is good, I'd stay there again if I really had to.

“Eh...”

My sister was getting married at the Riverview Pavilion which shares a parking lot with this motel so the whole family stayed here out of convenience.

First the good: The motel is ideally located next to the train station, and is walking distance to a beach shuttle and Main St., - a strip of shops, bars, and restaurants. Parking and Wi-Fi were free. There was a free coffee station in the lobby. The ladies at the front desk were helpful and as accommodating as they could be. They allowed us to leave welcome bags for the wedding guests at the front desk. We had none of the issues mentioned in the other reviews regarding having guests in the room and entering/exiting the hotel after 10pm. This was probably because the "guests" were other guests of the hotel. No one complained about any noise. Although the hotel is DEFINITELY dated and old the lobby, hallways, and our room were very clean. The air conditioner in our room blasted cold air which was great because it was 85+ both days. There is a marina across the street where it looked like there was open boat fishing available but we didn't have the opportunity to check that out.

The bad: The motel is located next to the train station so you can hear the trains. Didn't bother us too much but other guests found it very irritating. They only give you one key to the room upon check-in (a real physical key). Since my husband and I were involved in different wedding activities we had to monitor who had the key. The hotel is in desperate need of a huge overhaul as the decor, furniture, rugs, and linens would be considered outdated 20 years ago. Although the hotel appeared clean, the wear and age is evident. One of our guests had sheets that once had a floral pattern as evidenced by the faded edges of the sheet. The part that had been slept on for who knows how long was faded completely to pure white. The carpets had cigarette burn holes everywhere and the upholstery on many of the chairs was stained. The mattresses have a plastic cover which evokes thoughts of what they are protecting the mattresses from (ugh). The bathrooms have no vanity space - just the edge of sink and top of the toilet tank. Our room had an upgraded TV that was larger but others had a very small TV on a stand - no entertainment center. The hallways are prison-like. Low ceilings, painted cinder block walls, dim lighting. There are tiny soaps in the bathroom but no other toiletries. Those are available in the vending machine in little brown bags with handwritten descriptions. The one that says "Toothbrush and Toothpaste" is a single use toothbrush with toothpaste on it. The pool closes at 6pm which we all felt was really too early and we never got to enjoy it.

Overall, the hotel was convenient for us but lacked any of the amenities expected from a place that has the gall to charge $90 for a weeknight and $165 for a weekend. It is bare-bones. No toiletries, 2 flat pillows on the bed, no info in the room regarding the area (unless you count the old phone book), no coffee in the room, no dining, no mini-fridge, no iron, etc. This place is coasting on their convenient location which is the only reason they're probably still around. There aren't a lot of options in the area with the exception of bed and breakfasts and a Day's Inn. Would recommend for a night to crash only.

“Perfect for a NJ motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2011

This is a motel, not a hotel but for a motel it is clean and had all we were looking for...right near train and could walk a block to town. It is across from the marina and the wedding hall. If you are looking for a no frills motel that is clean and a great price this is a great place.

I could not believe that we called the day before to confirm that we had our room reservation confirmed and the front desk did not want a credit card to hold the room. We arrived at 8:45 and the lady at the front desk gave our room away!!!!!! She was RUDE< Smelled of cigarettes, she told me that there was a 6:00 rule that rooms can not be held. she gave us a smoking room , the sheets had holes in them, the bedspread also had holes in them, it was the wrost room i EVER stayed in. The over all Lodge smelled and was dirty. DONT stay there.
