“The Best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Our family goes twice a year. Yes Twice. We’ve been going to at the Engleside for over 20 years. Once in the 'off season' so we can bring our dogs. They are very pet friendly in the off season and the dogs love the beach. I've always felt welcomed by the staff and they always treat us like family. We return in the summer, just the two of us. It's always a very busy area with tons of things to do. I suggest that you check out the rooms as they differ greatly. Some are simply motel type rooms, others have balconies, some have kitchenettes and some have a great view of the ocean. Like anything else, you get what you pay for. Of course things are more expensive 'in season'. We have always loved having a kitchenette and breakfast on the balcony. It's just a short walk to the Surflight Theater or the supermarket. Always clean, always friendly. And I just booked us for another weekend!

Room Tip: Get an efficiency. Have breakfast on your deck overlooking the ocean. Avoid the rooms over the res...

“Engleside-Never again!”

The Engleside has always had a somewhat snotty staff but the last time we went here was the worst and will be the last. They always acted like they were put out and aggravated at having to check you in, but the last time I had to basically say "Hello, I'd like to check in now" despite the fact that the check in area is about as big as a broom closet. My point is they can't miss you. But they act like they wish someone else would do it as there is usually 2 or 3 of "them" sitting or standing there doing nothing. We had stayed there before and had a beach front room that was really nice. This time all they had was a room with a "beach view" that you pay more for as opposed, I guess, to a room with a parking lot or street view? Well you could see the beach from our balcony but it was down an alley between two buildings and was probably a car length wide. Are you kidding me? I took pictures of it and we laugh when we look at the "beach view". To top it off our room STUNK, I mean really bad, like someone had vomited, really bad. We opened the sliding door leading to the balcony and left the room door open as well to air the place out. Why didn't they do that? I told them at the front desk and they said they had no other rooms available and would send somebody up to, I don't know, fumigate the place? We left the balcony door open and turned the AC up as high as it could go to air the stink out, and went to dinner and then a show at the Surfside Theatre. When we came back several hours later they had sprayed some Lysol, I guess, and the balcony door was still wide open so it was almost impossible to smell that stench anymore. Between the rude staff, the nonexistent beach view, the stench and the sky high room rates, we will never go there again. The Sea Shell Motel is right across the street and also on the beach, and the people there treat you great and the rooms are less expensive. The Engleside restaurant at the motel is great however and I have no choice but to return there. I'll review that separately

We make excellent service a priority here at The Engleside. In an effort to do so, we contacted this guest for follow up and additional information. Per the guest, this trip was over 2 years ago in 2009. Unfortunately we do not have record of this stay. We hope this guest will allow us to serve them again on a future visit.

“Fall Vacation”

This is our 4th October vacation and our 5th time at the Engleside Inn. We love the town and everyone is so friendly. The efficiency suite is the way to go ! Lots of room for Kayla, our golden retriever and Joey, our black lab to roam and play. The beach is beautiful and the dogs love running wild on it. Can't wait for the next vacation!

“Best of the beach with excellent food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

Rooms are updated and the restaurant is a favorite of visitors and locals alike. There is even an early-bird menu for those inclined and a variety of specials during the week. As an extra added attraction, the Engleside has one of the best Sushi bars on the island.

Room Tip: Rooms over the restaurant are a bit louder when there's entertainment.

“Pleasant Surprise”

I was expecting a tired, old, trapped in the 1960s, worn out Beach motel.... I could not have been more pleasantly surprised. What a lovely, renovated, family friendly property this was. Rooms were recently and tastefully updated, property was well maintained, plenty of parking and amenities, great heated pool and outdoor bar area with decent enough food and of course perfect beachfront location and walking/biking distance to all Beach Haven has to offer. We did not eat in the restaurant but I heard good things about it. Not cheap but a great little escape.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking pool and ocean.. very nice, although the Jacuzzi in room was wierd but kid...
