Made a reservation at the Buccaneer for the weekend of Hurricane Irene. I called before we went down on the evening of Aug 25th to see what they suggested. They told me they were open for business as usual and made no reference to the storm. "Voluntary evacuation" orders were given beginning at 8pm that evening. The Governor was telling people not to travel south and subsequently closed the Parkway. The "Mandatory evacuation" was called the following morning at 6am. We were told if the mandatory evacuation was called we would be reimbursed for our deposit. They Lied! We called the credit card company to stop payment. The Buccaneer took the time to write a letter to the card company saying we never called to cancel and never showed up. Stay away from these dishonest people. They are trying to steal our money!!

My wife and I stayed here for three nights. The place is a typical motel on the shore. The rooms were so-so meaning they were clean and dated. We stayed in a room with two queen beds, a sink, fridge, coffee maker and microwave. The room was comfortable. On our last night we asked to see a suite and the manager gave us a key to look at one. We asked if we could pay the difference to stay in the suite for our last night. The manager gave us the suite at no additional charge. The suite had two rooms an electric stove top, jacuzzi bathtub plus the other amenities we had in our other room PLUS a balcony that overlooked the bay. This room although also dated was very nice and I would recommend it hands down. Check out time was at 12 noon and the manager let us get a late checkout due to our alarm clock not going off.
The motel is on the bay and the views are nice. They have two pools one out door and one indoor (which was closed since the weather was good for using the outdoor pool) and they have two gas grills if you want to cook outdoors with picnic tables. The beach is two blocks away.
You can't go wrong if you wanted to stay here. It's not up to date but it is clean well maintained and most important the management is caring and very helpful.
