“Ocean Front Room =NOISE NOISE NOISE”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

My husband and I were excited to have our last getaway before our baby was due to arrive so we splurged and reserved an ocean front room!! The room was beautiful -- the problem was it overlooks the tiki bar and is right over the nightclub!!!!! It was sooooooo loud In our room we could not get any sleep! It was awful because we were looking for a relaxing beach holiday!! These rooms are the most expensive (over $300), but they should be the cheapest due to the noise! We slept in a different room the first night -- just so we could actually sleep. The second night we officially moved to a different room -- it wasn't noisy, but was yet to be renovated so it was musty and not as clean as the other room. We felt like we wasted a lot of our time during our last getaway com paining about the noise and moving our room.

Disappointing really because it is in a great location and has so much potential to be great.

“No go if you like to sleep at night.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

The Sea Shell Hotel's location is perfect. The rooms are well designed and very comfortable, the views are beautiful in the ocean front rooms. When we checked in we were told by the person at the front desk that our ocean front room would be a little noisy because they had a DJ scheduled to play that evening. Well a little noisy does not even begin to describe it. Starting at 10:30pm our room was vibrating and we were kept awake by the pounding bass until 2:30am. After the club closed some of the inebriated patrons loudly lingered around. We asked to be moved to another room on the other side of the hotel but still experienced loud music and people on "Thunder Thursday" as they call it. If this vacation was 10 years ago when I was in my 20's I may have a different opinion about the hotel. Next year we will rent a house instead.

“100% relaxing beach experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

I avoided this place at the beginning of the summer because of the reviews here and stayed across the street at the Engelside. Hurricane Irene quashed my family's OBX plans, so we wanted a last minute LBI vacation and Sea Shell had a room.

I found the service to be excellent and friendly (don't agree with others here). The room was clean. We decided on an extra night so we had to move from our Queen room (206) and one full room (118). The Queen room was larger, carpeted, and had better and bigger beds, but the full room worked out well--clean, medium size.

Sea Shell does have a loud bar at night, which only briefly woke me (but not my family) up as patrons left "Thunder Thursday" at last call. The staff was very good about keeping us away from the noise. Noise is probably not an issue if your room is on the west side of the lobby.

On the other hand, the outdoor bar area was great for us during lunch. We all ate, food was very good (fish tacos rocked), live acoustic musician had a beachy low key vibe.. My wife and I had a drink and the kids played in fenced in beach area--very chill. Great atmosphere and it's right on the beach.

The rooms don't have wifi, but the lobby does. Did work late night at it was very pleasant.

It's a great location, friendly staff, clean rooms, good outdoor bar/restaurant. 100% relaxing beach experience.

Room Tip: with family, ask for something west of t he lobby, esp. on Thursday, Friday and Sat. Also spring fo...

“not "family resort"”

Very disappointed!! When making reservation I was told "we are a family resort". There is nothing family friendy about this place! Pool area is surrounded by fence with maybe 3 feet around pool to put a plastic chair(no lounge chairs!). The fence is there to keep the bar patrons away as it is completely surrounded by the bar. My children were afraid to go in the pool because as they put it "too many drunk people around". How is this a family friendly resort (using the tem resort loosely)? Room was just OK. Beds were like futons-didn't appear to have a box spring under matress. No hooks in bathroom or anywhere else to hang towels or swimsuits. Tile floor very gritty with sand.

“Never again, not family friendly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

We had to stay for 3 nights over a weekend in July. They seem to cater more to their outside guests than their hotel guests. No complimentary coffee for guests. No place to hang towels after being on the beach. No dryer for guests and were told not to hang anything on outside rails. We were told to hang on shower rod which fell on me when I tried hanging one towel. Wanted to sit outside at night with friends but there was no place except at their club which was too loud and too crowded with drunks. Not a place for my 13 and 11 year old. Not guaranteed a parking place at all first come first serve. We had to drive around after unloading our things for half an hour. Ridiculous especially for paying over $270.00 a night. Very close too beach was the only thing that was nice. We will never go again or recommend it to anyone that has a family.

Room Tip: Ask if you can have a renovated room away from the club. Club plays till 3 am on Saturday's
