“View the Presidential Range from your room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Mountain View Grand Resort is aptly named for its beautiful mountain views and abundance of resources, permitting guests to simply relax or participate in a number of favorite activities. On the way to the room, it was easy to notice bookcases full of books in the Dodge Parlor and in hallways on every level. There were plenty to choose from. Hallways also had quiet places to read next to windows with mountain views.

We were upgraded to a king room on the second floor with a view of Cannon Mountain and Mount Washington. Our room and bathroom were spotless. Housekeeping staff was pretty much invisible, but attentive.

During our stay, we enjoyed dinner in the wine cellar. The wine selection and fine dining options, although limited, were outstanding. I had the lobster which was prepared perfectly with a side of fresh asparagas. The entire meal was remarkable, and our waiter was highly attentive. Dinner items seemed to be priced accordingly. We ate in the tavern for a couple of breakfasts, appetizers, drinks and dinner. The food was consistently good and seemed to be priced accordingly. Breakfast service was a little slow just one morning.

Coffee was available in the tavern early mornings, while hot cider and cookies were available in the lobby late afternoons. The cider and cookies were delicious - the coffee, acceptable.

Our group of ten guests spent an entire afternoon in the game room. We used the wet bar while playing pool, air hockey, ping pong and foosball. We did not use the movie theater, but it was vacant during our mid-week visit. We also used the pool, hot tub, and exercise facilities. All areas of the property were meticulously maintained.

Our greatest disappointment was the lack of snow. Sleigh rides were carriage rides, no snowmobiling or dogsledding or even XC-skiing were available. We walked on the property and visited the Spaulding Inn nearby. The skating rink and skate rentals were available, but we didn't skate. There were no bonfires, probably due to the limited number of guests.

Our stay was so relaxing and so enjoyable that we would consider returning for a week to play golf, use the outdoor pool, and hike in Weeks State Park. We look forward to another Groupon room deal so we can enjoy the solitude of MVG in the off-season as well.

“Not as Grand as it once was...”

My family and I attended a wedding on Feb 11th. This was the second wedding that we were invited too at the MVG. First off the rooms were clean and the views beautiful. But it seems like this place cannot keep good help. The wedding seemed like a mess. Our dear friends ended up with a terrible band and DJ. The food was late and cold[probably because the cook runs the music too]. The seating at the reception was screwed up.We just went back to our rooms and watched tv. Last year we went to a wedding which had live jazz cocktail music,an excellent DJ, a live band with a great female vocalist and the food was superb and on time. What happened? Where is the Grand?
In short, if you are looking for a wedding destination make sure you interview the wedding coordiantor yourself and ask to speak to a general manager or person incharge and not the non-english speaking cook/musician.

Dear Guest,

We have tried to contact you regarding this review, but you have not responded. After investigating the events surrounding your comments and speaking to the bride and groom of the wedding, we suspect this was written by someone other than a wedding guest.

The bride and groom were very happy with their ceremony and reception. The entertainment, which they contracted on their own, was not associated with the resort. Needless to say, our culinary professionals do not double as musicians. We also cross-referenced the guest list of this wedding event with our past history and found that no one had previously stayed at the resort.

“Fabulous but. . .”

I want to start by saying that I love GVM! My husband and I first visited in 2006 and have been back a few times since. We love eveything about the resort. Great staff, beautiful facilities, excellent food, tons of activities (if you get a chance go to the barn not only is the farmer wonderful to chat with but also the animals are very cute) and this time was just as fantastic with two exceptions. One very minor the other quite disappointng.

Our minor complaint arrival we were very excited when the front desk manager informed us that we were going to be upgraded to a junior suite with a view of the mountains. Our room was spectacular, the view amazing (and yes we did bundle ourselves up and sit on the balcony.) It wasn't until the next morning that we became aware of why such a great room would have been available. What seemed like many sets of tiny feet thundered across the floor above us beginning at 7 a.m. and the adults were not exactly light on their feet either. It was at the very least annoying, making me wonder if someone had given up the room for that reason. And it didn't stop! I don't know who goes to GVM to stay in their room; however, it seemed ike every time I wanted to relax or take a nap a herd of children were running above us. Minor detail but beware, after a previous experience by the stairwell I recommend rooms on the third floor if possible!

What was the most disappointing portion of our trip was my visit to the spa. I had scheduled the Alpine foot service for Sunday morning. Although I had tried to book several other treatments a couple weeks in advance not much was available but who doesn't love a good foot soak. I arrived at the spa 10 minutes early, was taken to the changing area, and waited. I was able to read two articles in the current People magazine before I was taken into the room over five minutes late. Overall the treatment was nice but certainly not the 25 minutes it is listed as. I was back in the changing area, finished the article I was reading during my service and checked out by 9:22. Yes, the spa is beautiful and serene. Yes, the people are friendly, but for $10 more I can go to a local spa that is also nice for a pedicure that is equally as relaxing and when they say 60 mins. they give it to you. I have been to the spa at GVM when it was an aveda concept salon in 2006 and have to say the THINGS HAVE CHANGED. When checking out I did mention the rushed feeling I recieved during my treatment and was given 20% off. This by no means ruined our experience, as I said the resort is fabulous; but if you love spa services (and I do) for the price the experience may leave you a little lack lustered.

Room Tip: Third floor rooms are the way to go!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for writing a review about your stay. We have attempted to contact you to no avail. The reason for upgrading you to a suite was because we had noted it was your anniversary. We apologize that you had any issue with noise emanating from the room directly above yours. I have spoken with our spa director regarding your comments about your spa treatment. We have taken measures to ensure all treatments are correctly timed and serviced. We hope you will visit again.

“Relaxing weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We arrived after 3 and our room was ready. We had asked for a room with a view but unfortunately did not get one. Our room was very small for the four of us. Everything was clean but the carpets could use a cleaning. The matress was very firm. There was sample bottles of shampoo and soap in the bathroom. The kids chose a movie at the front desk and complimentary popcorn was delivered when our movie started. The kids loved it. We enjoyed the pool but noticed that the no child rule in the hot tub was not enforced. Careful in the pool shower. My daughter slipped while stepping in and has a huge bruise on her leg as a result. The kids also liked the farm and the woman there spent a great deal of time educating us about the animals. She was fantastic. There was not much snow so we limited out activities to skating and tubing at the kids area. The gentlemen from the skating area actually carried out hot chocolate for everyone. The kids really liked making the smores. Although there was a schedule of activites we had a bit of a challenge finding where things were being held. Maybe a map at the bottom of the schedule? We asked for directions at one point but the staff was unsure where to direct us. Speakin gof the staff, they are fantastic. Always friendly and quick to help. There was only one place for us to eat. Nothing really around town. The food was really good and they had a child friendly menu. Breakfast buffet was great for $15 and you could order an omlet of the menu. We did have to wait in line for this. It would be nice to have some snack options while hanging out at the hotel. We had a great time and the drive there was beautiful.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for visiting our hotel. We hope your daughter is recovering quickly from her slip in the locker room shower. Our Executive Housekeeper has evaluated the pool locker room shower floors in both the men’s and women’s room and rubber mats have been installed in each location. We are glad you and your family enjoyed the time you spent together here. Come back again soon.
