We took advantage of a mid-week winter special for a two-night stay at the Chesterfield Inn. The inn is located close to a busy highway, which made us initially leery. But in the winter, at least, with the windows closed, we heard absolutely no traffic noise, and the view from our windows was of meadows and forest - very peaceful. We stayed in a room in an outbuilding, based on decor shown on the inn's Web site. It was a bit smaller than it appeared online, but perfectly fine. Adding to the warmth of the room was a gas fireplace that one could turn on and off, with a switch, with even a timer for bedtime. The outbuildings are apparently where guests with pets stay. The room was meticulously cleaned and there was no sign of previous pet occupancy. A side note: the carpeting in our room was of the indoor/outdoor type, likely for durability with dogs. If we were to stay again, we'd probably choose a room in the inn proper - they seemed a bit richer and were certainly more convenient to common and dining areas. The staff were uniformly pleasant and helpful, and two of the resident three cats also greeted us.
Breakfast was substantial and well-prepared. You have standard choices and daily specials. We dined one evening as well, and dinner was very good and reasonably priced. The inn has a changing, seasonal, limited menu.
Again, it was very good stay at a very good inn. Absolutely no complaints, but nothing really "knocked out socks off" to merit an exceptional rating either. I'd definitely recommend it for the area, and if you do have a dog, it's a very special opportunity for a quite nice inn stay with your four-legged companion.
