“Great Family Trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Just spent the weekend at Steele Hill and we had an excellent time. Had never even heard of Steele Hill before the Groupon deal went out. Did not buy one of those, but they had some really good discount packages on the website and the place looked interesting, so we gave it a shot. We have 5 year old twins, so the real attraction was the big pool with a waterslide as well as the skating pond. We booked a 2 bedroom suite in the West Wing which seemed like the best area of the resort. We could walk back and forth to the pool in our bathing suits.
Our room was spotless, and my impression of the whole resort was that it was really well maintained and clean. It's not the Ritz, but we had two nights in a really spacious, did I say clean, condo, two dinners in the restaurant, and spent less than $500. The food quality was excellent, the service from everyone working at the resort was excellent, and the kids had the time of their lives. The skating pond was great, and if the snow conditions had been a bit better, there would have been awesome sledding and snowshoeing.
It was a super easy drive to get to, the setting and views are fantastic, and there was absolutely no reason to leave.
The resort is suited best for families with younger kids, and it seemed that the majority of guests fell into that category. We would definitely return to Steele Hill.

Room Tip: West Wing seems to be the best spot. It's connected to the Atrium Pool, Fitness Center, Game Ro...

There is no better feeling than having a new customer tell us they had a great experience staying at the resort. I will relay your feedback to all the staff. I am extremely happy that your twins enjoyed their time at the resort. The large pool area is usually a big hit for any guest, this is especially true for children. Our grounds crew has been doing a great job keeping the ice clear this year. With the general lack of snow, it has been a great asset to have such a large skating space with hockey nets for people to enjoy the outdoors.

I will let the restaurant staff know that you enjoyed your food. Hopefully you had the chance to sit by the big windows and get a taste of our views at the same time. Thanks again for choosing Steele Hill Resorts. I hope that you and the twins can get a chance to come back and spend time on the hill again soon.

Sincerely,
Rob Robillard, General Manager

“Desperately in need of an update”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

One star is for the friendly staff. One star is for the decent comfort food at the tavern.
We booked a one bedroom suite through a Groupon. My husband and I thought it would be a quick kid-free weekend for us coming from boston. We had a one bedroom east suite which consisted of a drab living room, kitchenette, and bedroom with a king bed crammed in it. The room was smelly, dreary and looked like it was out of the 70s. The mattress was thin but the walls were thinner. We heard every move from the family upstairs....every kid crying, every discussion, every door close, every footstep. We loved waking up with their kids at 6:30 am.
We had to sit in our room waiting for the maintenance guy because first, we couldn't figure out the shower. He said they are supposed to be making signs because no one can figure it out. Secondly, the hair dryer was broken so we had to wait for that to be replaced.
The pools were super chlorinated. I can still smell it after a shower.
We will not be back and we didn't even bother showering this morning before checkout because we just wanted to go home.

Room Tip: The south room are the newest so they may be nicer. The north and west rooms are not attached to th...

First off, I am glad that you found our Staff behaved in a professional manner and that you enjoyed the food in the restaurant. When I read this review I must say I was a bit disheartened. We have made major efforts to update the rooms in this section of the resort including new tubs, new sliders and flat screen TVs.

I did find some issues when I inspected your room after reading the review. Many of these were minor, but ultimately it is our responsibility to provide a positive vacation experience and it appears we let you down. After receiving the maintenance request to fix your hairdryer, we should have followed up more thoroughly to make sure you were satisfied with your accommodations. I will address this policy with both the desk staff and the maintenance staff to ensure we do a better job of evaluating guest satisfaction at each point of contact in order to solve any problems up front. I can assure you that had we understood you were not happy we would have gone out of our way to address any and all issues during your time with us.

I would love the opportunity to change your perspective about our resort. I will have the desk staff look for your contact information to call you directly. If you get a chance to read this review prior to me reaching out please contact me at robertrobillard@steelehillresorts.com or by phone at 603.524.2216.

“Smelly dirty time share - not a pleasant experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

My husband brought me here for my 30th birthday. We paid for a suite, which consisted of a bedroom attached to a living room both of which have not been updated since the 70's (ooooh, there was the fresh coat of paint). The entire suite was dreary, and we had a balcony which overlooked a parking lot (well, propane tanks and the septic leeching field). I thought okay well at least we have a fireplace, although we were not provided with matches so we were not able to enjoy it (we're not smokers). To top off this less than desirable situation we could here the family upstairs running around during our entire stay whether it was 10PM or 8AM.

We also received a call Saturday morning telling us they would give us US100.00 off our stay if we would sit through a 90 minute presentation about buying a time share. All I could think was "Lady, I don't even want to stay here for the time that I already paid for."

I could have lived with the room but the restaurant is located down the hill, so we had to put our infant daughter into her car seat just to drive down and eat. My husband had the prime rib and enjoyed it, I had a buffalo burger which was very dry. I have eaten buffalo burgers all over the country and don't really understand how you can make them dry. We went back for brunch, which was just okay.

We were so disappointed that we decided to pack up and leave early. There are tons of great places to stay in New Hampshire, but this is not one of them. GO somewhere else.

It is unfortunate that your stay with us did not meet your expectations. The room that you stayed in does have a view which includes 3 propane tanks down near the tree line. This area is slated for a beautification project in the spring which will include either burying or completely removing these tanks. The good news is that many of the rooms in this area also offer our clearest perspective on the White Mountain range which includes Mount Washington on a clear day.

I can assure you that your room is not from the 70’s. The building complex that you stayed in was actually finished in 1989. I can also say that we have made many more improvements than just adding paint. We actually just finished remodeling the master bathrooms in these units this year.

It terms of a lack of instructions about using the fireplace, it sounds like our desk staff could have provided better communication. We sell wax logs and offer matches at the front desk. Many guest love this room feature and I am sorry that you were not able to enjoy a warming fire during your time with us.

I will relay your feedback concerning the bison burger back to the restaurant manager and the head chef. If the food was not up to your expectations then we must have dropped the ball somewhere. I frequent the restaurant each week and I can assure you that the bison burger is usually one of our best lunch items. I hope this response finds its way back to you. I would love an opportunity to talk about your time with us. Please contact me at robertrobillard@steelehillresorts.com or by phone at 603.524.2216.

“Great spot for a long weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We recently stayed two nights at the Steel Hill Resorts. We were there for an on site winter wedding. The resort is very large. We stayed in the West Townhouse which was located in the min section. Our two story townhouse had two full baths and room to sleep 6 comfortably. We were just a short walk to the indoor pool equipt with sauna, hot tubs and waterslide. The first night there we ate with friends in the bar. The restaurant was full but the bar offered the complete menu. There was a large main sitting area with a fireplace. The wedding ceremony took place at this location. The reception took place in a large hall off of their on site dining room. Everything at the resort is clean and rustic. The views of the lake are amazing. The resort is only 15 minutes from the fantastic Tilton outlets. This resort is an maxing year round spotZ,

Thank you for the positive feedback about our resort. Our dedicated staff works hard to provide an enjoyable, relaxing environment. It looks like you had a great experience up on the hill. Between our great pool facilities and our spacious multi-room suites, Steele Hill provides a unique vacation experience in the lakes region.

I am glad you were able to attend a winter wedding with us. The hill is a great spot to get married. The resort offers truly amazing views overlooking Lake Winnisquam and the Belknap Mountain Range. If you are lucky enough to experience a sunset from one of our decks or balconies you are treated with what I think is one of the most beautiful views in all of the granite state.

I hope you and your friends had a good enough experience to visit with us again sometime soon. Thanks for choosing Steele Hill.

“Best vacation in a long time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We bought a groupon for a two night stay at this resort and we were blown away as to how amazing it ended up being. The hotel itself was located in a beautiful area, with stunning views of the lakes and mountains. There were tons of activities to do, inside and outside, with racquetball, a game room, an awesome pool, and an ice skating rink and trails to hike outside.
The front desk was great throughout the entire process. We called before booking with questions and they were so kind and helpful it definitely helped us make the decision to book this over other places. When we got there, the resort was slow, so we received an upgrade on our room. The suites were incredible! Fireplace, kitchen, whirlpool bathroom, multiple bedrooms, balconies, beautiful views, and fully equipped, I mean what more could you want!
The resort itself seems like it has been around for a long time, so be aware that certain wear and tear is there (rust, floor squeaks, heat noises, stuff like that), but everything was clean and maintained. The pool was BEAUTIFUL and super fun, although it was a little over treated with chemicals (which is nice considering multiple people use it, but I do recommend showering right after in the locker rooms!).
The restaurant was delicious! It was also great having a kitchen so we brought our own food for one night and splurged on the restaurant the second night. Both were incredible. It was so great to stay in suites like this. It was romantic, beautiful, and fun. I recommend staying in the west suites, which are the suites with free wi fi (I think the east also have free wifi) and the suites that are right near the big pool with the water slide (connected, so you don't have to walk outside).

I highly recommend this hotel and so does my fiancé! This was exactly what we needed.

Room Tip: Staying in the west building was incredible! I think the south building is by the restaurant down th...

I am glad you thoroughly enjoyed your time at Steele Hill Resorts. We are an amenity-rich facility and it seems like you took full advantage of everything we have to offer. While the pools and other amenities are second to none in the area, I always feel that anybody who can appreciate a great view is likely to enjoy their stay at Steele Hill.

I will be sure to let the restaurant manager know that you enjoyed your food during the visit. Also, on a side note, this week we just finished installing WIFI in the new South Building so now the entire campus should be wired up. Thanks again for the great feedback. I truly hope to see you back at the hill again in the future.
