My husband and I stayed here for one night during a trip throughout New England. The price for this hotel was the lowest of any that I paid for our entire trip (staying at similar hotels) so I was a bit worried about what we'd find. No need to fret! Our room was spacious and clean and the bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows. The bathroom was a good size and the shower had decent water pressure and plenty of hot water. The continental breakfast was adequate (the usual breads, cereal, fruit, yogurt, juices and coffee). There were warm cookies at the front desk in the evening. The local newspaper was available for free. Every encounter with the general manager (saw the title on his name tag but didn't catch his name) was pleasant. He was everywhere - doing everything! The other front desk clerk (Jeremy, I think) was also very friendly and helpful.

When we arrived at this hotel we found there was no microwave and our fridge has problems. Step in front desk staff who tried a couple of rooms to sort this problem and then passed it to maintenance. Result in morning a microwave and a new fridge, The room was excellent with two queen sized beds and lots of pillows. Breakfast was good with supplies being refilled often. I would recommend this hotel to anyone but it is close to the rotary so have your wits about you the first time.

A chain motel that gave us a friendly welcome as a family-run motel would do. Efficient and helpful staff. A fair, competitive price for a 2-night weekend stay (Fri and Sat). Good breakfast, free newspapers. Large room that was clean and comfortable. We didn't use the pool or fitness room, so can't comment. Great location as a hub for seeing Portsmouth attractions like the research submarine Albacore and the North Cemetery, where one of the Declaration of Independence signers (Whipple) is buried. We should have asked advice at the desk about restaurants. Went to the worst Chinese buffet on the planet (Grand Buffet II) for lunch on Saturday. See our separate review on this place.

Stayed there for two nights during the labor day weekend.
Notes on stay:
1. Staff helpful: gave us ideas of restaurant to visit for good seafood in the downtown area.
2. The room was clean and well maintained (must say ...the overall hotel seems new)
3. Note the pool and fitness center are at the Holiday Inn ... not in the hotel
4. Remote control setup problem: Unbelievable but I had a ton of problems with the remote control and the cable box
5. We were welcomed with cookies which was a simple but great idea!
6. Easy access to Rye beach (about 20 min. drive)

Overall, nice and simple hotel
