“convenient to interstate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

This hotel could not be easier to find: take exit 6 off I-95 (when heading north), and you're looking at it. In spite of being so close to the interstate, the hotel is very quiet, and you have the option of running the in-room AC on "fan only," which drowns out all sound.
We found the Anchorage to be clean and staff to be cheerful and helpful. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom was sufficiently spacious with in-tub shower. Breakfast (included) was adequate. Hotel has indoor swimming pool and hot-tub!
It's about 1.5 miles or so to the "old town." We walked it, through clean and safe neighborhoods. There is ample parking at the hotel and ample pay parking downtown, but meter-maids are out all day, everyday!
Overall this is a very good value for the money. The distance from the old town is the only drawback, and not a problem for those who like to walk.

Room Tip: We were told the "west wing" was quieter, which is where we were, and noise was not a prob...

“Don't leave anything behind and hope to get it back!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

We have stayed at and recommended the Anchorage Inn several times in the past year mainly because it was a convenient location for us. The hotel itself is OK but seems to lack the warmth that I have noticed at other similar hotels in the area.

Here is where I am very angry with this hotel. My sons were swimming in the pool and left behind some athletic gear. We called the hotel as soon as we realized it was missing and was told it had been found by the housekeeper but she would not be back until the following day. Late the following day I called back and was told that the housekeeper found it but assumed it belonged to a maintenance man and 'threw it in the back of his truck'. The said employee was not available at that time so I said I would come back. Two days later I came back and asked about the item and was told (with a shrug) that the said employee had quit and they did not know where he was.

I was a bit appalled that a) a lost and found item located in an area frequented by guests was just 'assumed' to belong to an employee b) there appears to be no tracking system in place for lost items and c) the hotel employees and Gina at the front desk specifically were absolutely unapologetic about it and had no desire to help me or attempt to make it right. I left my contact information and asked for a call from the owners of the hotel but apparently my continued business at their establishment is not needed as they have made no attempt to contact me.

I have had issues with Gina at the Front Desk before due to her surly attitude and overwhelming lack of interest in representing the Anchorage Inn in a professional manner. I have called the Anchorage Inn before and spoken to her to find a room for out of town company, according to her there was NOTHING available except their beautiful but out of my price range suites. Oddly enough, when I called and spoke with Tom just a few hours later, there were plenty of rooms available. I realize that reservations can be cancelled and inventory can change but this happened two times in a row. I do not think it was a coincidence.

I have directed 5 different sets of house guests to the Anchorage Inn in the past months and had planned to use them for all of my out of town company since it is a good location for us. Unfortunately, the Anchorage Inn and Gina as their Front Desk Representative specifically appear to have no desire to provide good quality customer service, I will instead direct my business elsewhere. I will however make sure to inform every person that I can about my experience at the Anchorage Inn and the reasons why I can no longer recommend that anyone stay there. I surely hope that the owners of this hotel do something about their current staff. Leaf season can only carry a business for so long, word of mouth and a positive experience is what creates repeat customers.

Dear Guest,
We are sorry about the miscommunication on this issue and your lost articles. We have a Lost & Found system where articles that we find are logged and put in a safe. The items that the maintenance man had were his items, which we checked. If you were under a different impression we are again sorry for the misunderstanding. We did everything we could think of to find your things and do not wish that any of our guests have an unpleasant stay with us for any reason.
Thank you,
Management

“Great Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

We stayed for the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. The rooms were clean. It advertises non-smoking until you check in and find there is a selective area for tobacco abuse. The room too close to the pool has the odor of chlorine. While not perfect, the accomodations were comfortable. The breakfast nook is much too small.

“Stayed for 2 nights in april 2011”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

we stayed here for 2 nights after originally staying at the ramada inn 2 miles away in kittery, ME. There was a reason we left the ramada and anchorage inn was excellent. The rooms are not the largest, but they are clean and nicely appointed. We enjoyed the indoor pool and jacuzzi. The staff was very friendly and even price matched the lowest price we found online for their hotel. it is fairly close to anything you would want to do in the Portsmouth area.

“Great Hotel for the value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

This hotel is a great value in the area. It is very close to 95 and Hwy 16. There is a roundabout that is a little tricky, but we mastered it. With good weather, the trip takes a little over 1 hr. from Manchester Airport. We stayed on the top (3rd.) floor and it was very quiet. We did not use the pool, but it is immaculate! Typical continental breakfast with an added bonus of waffles you make yourself. Plenty of bananas and apples and cereal, bagels etc.
Our stay was for 5 nights and we had no trouble parking. There is an elevator and parking is easy. I would recommend this hotel, especially for its value compared to other hotels in the area. This hotel does not have a restaurant, but the Holiday in is a few hundred feet away and they have a restaurant and a bar which we visited. Our stay at the Anchorage was pleasant and if we returned to Portsmouth, N.H. we would stay here again! Rooms are all refurbished very nicely and bathrooms are immaculate too!

Room Tip: We stayed in a room on the top 3rd floor....very quiet!
