After searching many of the hotels and inns in North Conway for the best deal, my partner and I stumbled upon the Kearsarge Inn. With the pictures certainly upstaging many of the cheap motels in the area and the fabulous reviews, we decided to give it a shot. We went during a slow week, so there were very few cars parked outside of the inn and it seemed like we had the place to ourselves. We could park right outside the back door and our room was just a staircase and a hallway away (we had room 7). I loved how cozy the inn was, feeling deliciously historic yet very accommodating as well. Our room, while furnished with antiques, was very comfortable and contained the right modern touches where it counted. The bathroom was very spacious and clean (though lacking in shelves to put toiletries), the bed was large, and, perhaps the best feature, the gas fireplace in the room was a great source of heat in the bitter cold of January. We only stayed for one night, so I cannot speak directly of the quality of the cleaning services, but our room was spotless when we checked in and it seems many of the complaints of uncleanliness in the inn were just rare incidents or from overly fastidious guests.
The reason I did not give the Inn the full 5 stars is because the bed was rather uncomfortable, I woke up with a sore back and I am only 21, so it certainly was not just a result of old age. There was a lack of surfaces to put items, such as bedside tables, shelves, and desks, many of my packed items ended up on the floor. The breakfast, while suitable for me, was limited (however there are many great breakfast places in North Conway!). Finally, we did get the room at a $20 discount through smart online shopping and while I would give the inn five stars at the rate we paid, at the standard rate, I would not be so gracious.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience, very affordable, and very cozy. Perfect for couples looking for a romantic place to stay and perfect for those like me who treat hotels and inns as a place to spend the night and not necessarily as a place to spend the day. Nothing better than coming "home" to a warm fireplace. I would definitely go there next time I visit North Conway and I encourage others to give it a try themselves.
