Our stay at this Radisson was probably one of our worst hotel stays ever. I don't easily give a 1 star rating, but this stay was such a major disaster there is no way I can give them more. That being said I have stayed at this property before and it was fine, but our stay on October 29 was definitely our last one.
As many others have written in reviews, this hotel is on its way down and there are clear signs of financial difficulties when you walk through the property. By itself this doesn't bother me at all and based on my status with the Radisson chain we got a nice room on the top floor with a sleep number bed and the room itself was probably worth 4* based on the price we paid. It was a clean room and the bath was in acceptable condition.
You might wonder why I gave this hotel 1* and it was not because the food in their restaurant was not particularly good and the service was mediocre, it was because of some major service issues during our stay.
It was an October weekend and an unusual Northeaster came up the coast and dumped a few inches of snow in the MA, ME, NH area. Not a big deal for the Northeast and I don't even consider it a big deal that the hotel lost power half way through the evening, because it was clearly not their fault. But they did absolutely nothing about it! Power goes out and that's it. Of course there is no light, heat or anything anymore in the hotel and one might start to be concerned about guest safety. Pathetically enough there was not even an attempt to check on guest or if they needed anything. Nobody stopped by our room to see if we were ok or left a message of any sorts. The next morning it was not just freezing cold but there was no hot water (which was not surprising) either. The bathroom was totally dark and we tried to gather our belongings as good as possible with no light. So we tried to get from our room on the top floor down to the lobby and were utterly shocked to find that no lights were on in any of the hallways, not even the emergency signs were lit! One of the most dangerous situations I have ever seen in a hotel and it is impossible to imagine what would have happened in case of an emergency. Somehow we managed to get our suitcase down the dark stairwell and it was a miracle that we didn't hurt ourselves.
When we finally got to the front desk there was no form of apologies for the completely unacceptable situation or any offer to comp the night or anything at all. They could have al least gotten some hot coffee from a nearby coffee shop or something to help warm up their freezing guests.
Back at home we realize we forgot something in the bathroom (how were we supposed to see anything w/o any light!) and we called to hotel. The front desk answered and put us on a long hold before the guy came back and had completely forgotten what we called about. So we told him again and he asked us to call back during morning hours to talk to housekeeping. So we call again and of course nobody knows anything, but we were promised to be called back soon. A month later we are still waiting for our call to be returned and I hope the poor soul who found our stuff could at least sell it for a good price on Ebay.
It is unheard of in the service industry that with such a major disaster the guests are charged in full. I would have expected to see a letter from the hotel in the mail apologizing for the unfortunate situation and offering to comp the stay or send a voucher for another night, but there was absolutely nothing not even the slightest attempt to make this right. Unless you are looking for similar customer service I cannot recommend staying at this hotel, we will certainly not return.
