“Church Landing weekend stay...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

My wife and I celebrated her 50th birthday with a getaway surprise weekend for her at Church Landing, which is ne of the great hotels at the Inns & Spa at Mills Falls in Meredith NH center.
She loved everything about it. If you want a Spa visit, book it before you get there. I waited till we arrived on Friday at 4pm, but all spots were booked for the weekend.
The room had it's own fireplace and balcony overlooking frozen lake Winnepesauke which was being used by ice fishermen for the ice fishing derby there. It was all fun to watch.
food at Lakehouse Grill was excellent, and the bar atmosphere there was low key, fun and friendly. Special occasions cost a bit more, and this place fits that bill. Do it, enjoy it and don't worry about spending a few extra bucks to have a great time that you and your significant other will look back on and smile for a long time.

“Too expensive for the type room we got”

I agree with a couple other reviews - Church Landing is a gorgeous spot, the views are unbeatable, the beds are very comfortable and the staff very friendly, but...
We have very happily stayed here before, but in a regular room. This time, we stayed in the Cathedral Suite for a very special occasion (& a very high price), and I guess I just expected a lot more when paying well over $400 per night. First off, this is not a "suite", but just one very large single room, which frankly had a lot of wasted space. The WIFI only worked if you sat in one particular corner, which was not comfortable. The room overall was dark, and the furnishings/rugs looked tired & drab. The sofa, for example, had really worn cushions, and the wall paper in some spots noticeably needed to be replaced. There does not appear to be cental heat, but only 2 window units which ran quite loudly. I know folks come here for the rustic "camp" look, but then I think it should be priced accordingly. There was an alcove with a small table & chairs in it, but the chairs had broken back slats, uneven legs, and the wooden wall covering did not look professionally installed (I'm being kind here). For the price we paid I expected more than mis-matched furniture, a scratched up table, and a curtain instead of a closet door. Again, it's a beautiful spot, and I actually would stay here again, but only in a regular room, which as I recall had everything the Cathedral "suite" had, just on a smaller, cozier, and much less expensive scale.

“Great hotel but PRICEY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Great venue, but pricey If you need to do any work on a computer the lighting is not conducive and the desk and chair are not made for working comfortably, but the rest of the room is wonderful Best beds anywhere. The cost would make me think twice about staying again, but for a wedding it was a treat

“Great Winter Escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My husband and I just returned from a one night stay at Church Landing. We were looking to do some skiing during the day and enjoy some quiet relaxation by the fireplace at night. We chose this hotel based on Tripadvisor reviews and were not disappointed. My rating is really 4 and half stars - but decided to round up instead of down because we immensely enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to return.

The hotel has a very warm, cozy and luxurious feel to it, with fireplaces throughout the common areas and gorgeous views of the lake. Our room was well appointed, clean, spacious and with a great balcony and fireplace in the room. Previous reviews about the beds being extremely soft are accurate - I really enjoyed the marshmellowy bedding, however my husband was a bit uncomfortable. There is complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate available at all hours - as well as danishes and muffins in the morning for breakfast.

Our only complaint - which isn't the fault of the hotel - is that there seemed to be a lot of children staying at the resort. We weren't able to use the hot tub because it was full of children whenever we wanted to use it - and could hear children screaming at the outdoor tub/pool from outside (as our room was fairly close to the pool). Additionally, there was a group of children playing hockey in the hallway outside our room for about 30 minutes - repeatedly hitting our door with their hockey sticks and running up and down the hall. Normally this wouldn't bother me, but my husband and I were there to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. I finally decided to call the front desk and they sent someone within 10 minutes to stop them.

All in all, we would absolutely return to this hotel if we return next winter. I would just make sure to reserve a room as far away from the pool as possible.
