There are hardly any hotels within 10 miles of lake winni - so if you want water you have to pick your poison. There are a couple motel / cottage places I have stayed at along this lovely little strip of lake shore drive toward Weirs Beach, but overall this was my best stay.

People have written in prior reviews about the small beach or a dirty ice bucket. I can sympathize but we are talking about a motel. I NEVER set my standards high and hope for the best. I think this place was great for a night or a couple nights.

PRICE - I paid $162 on a busy night (Saturday during the summer) which included tax and coffee in the morning. I am not complaining....most places with a lakeview are $200+.

ROOM - The rooms were average size, they included a mini mini fridge which was cold, there was A/C in the room which kept it nice and cool and was not too loud. They even had a dehumidifier in the room which was a bonus. They had plenty of towels, the sheets were clean, and decent smelling soap and shampoo. The room was pretty clean. There was a cable tv and reception was great. The only real complaints are there was a litte mold around the caulking in the shower and they need better beds. I am certain they will not replace them - there is no incentive too !!! I have never slept on a comfortable bed in the this whole region.

GROUNDS: There was a recreation room, grills you can use, ice machine, soda machine, coffee outside in the am, a decent size pool (starts at 4ft) overlooking the lake. Plenty of parking. There is a beach across a busy street and a little hairy climb down a flight of stairs. The beach is small....but just to have access is better than 60% of the other motels which either have none or docks only. My 3 year old loved it...it was not busy. They had docks you could boat into, fish off of, or just hang out and drink a beer. There were some chairs out there for you. We definetly wanted the lake water - we got it - it's that simple.

SERVICE: The owner is very very nice. They take great care of the grounds and you feel very welcome and it's not creepy.

***TO THE MOTEL - GET NEW BEDS*** That is my only small critisism

This motel creeps up on you as your coming north on Lake Shore Drive toward Weirs Beach and it's on the right side before the Naswa Motel

Our LARGE family has a 'Farmily Reunion/Summer Birthday Parrty" every year in Laconia, NH. Over the years, my immediate family and several other in-law families, have stayed at different hotels/motels within Laconia. We usually had to pay a premium rate due to it being a weekend - and often times, the accomodations were below satisfactory for the price we had to pay. We found the Birch Knoll about four years ago and now, we go there every year. There prices are very reasonable and for what you get - there's no comparison. They have an outdoor pool which is clean and looks over the lake. The rooms are a good size and always clean and smell fresh. We love that there is a refridgerator in the room for our kids to store their snacks/drinks. There's also a large deck for all guests to use which has a BBQ grill on it & several tables and chairs. Excellent if you don't want to have to go out to eat for every meal. It's location is close to everything - Weir's Beach and all of the entertainment - plus, close to grocery stores/Walmart etc. the staff is always friendly and accomodating. We have never been dissatisfied while staying at the Birch Knoll Motel. You should check it out!

I stayed at the Birch Knoll Motel in Laconia, NH last year with a church youth group for Soulfest and the stay was fine. However, this year was much different. The owner is socially awkward and off-putting to begin with, but this time he was outright rude to my wife, me, and the kids. After he got his extra money for a room we didn’t even use he was a little friendlier. I just avoided him for most of our stay. After we left he accused us of stealing towels (we took the towels from the extra room into our other rooms). I hope he enjoys this negative review. This is how I plan to compensate for our $520.00 loss, not by stealing scratchy towels. Not to mention the $1,500 he will not be getting from us next year.

First a little background, my wife and I travel once or twice a year to the Lakes Region for a little R&R, so we are very familar with the motel as its prime location. We had previously stayed there about 10 years ago before our most recent visit this July. Typically, we stay at another resort, or rent a place for a week, but our budget called for us to cut back this year.
We stayed 2 nights in a King size room for just over $100 a night. We both thought this was a great deal as the location can't be beat. Room was super clean and the bed comfortable. We also had a flat screen TV and mini fridge in the room. The swimming pool on property looked inviting, but we were there for the Lake, so we skipped the pool. The motel does have a small beach area across the street with adirondack chairs that we both thoroughly enjoyed. There is also a dock in case you have a boat. What a wonderful place to enjoy a sunset...on the dock sitting on an adirondack chair with adult beverage in hand. It was great. I would recommend this motel for anyone looking to enjoy the lake and all it has to offer. Location is key.
