This is a good old fashioned hotel in a great location on a quiet road looking over a golf course. We arrived when a large wedding reception was in full swing, but staff gave us a professional welcome and got us settled in a good family room. They coped extremely well with the disruption caused by Hurricane Irene, and even with staff being unable to get to work and power outages the remaining staff were resourceful and hardworking and did not make a drama out of a crisis. Meals were good and efficiently served, and the place was clean and well looked after. My impression from wedding guests who stayed was that this hotel is used by many "repeat visitors, who appreciate its continuity.
The one disappointment was the fitness centre, the equipment being completely inadequate (just one exercise cycle, broken, and an antique and corroded weight machine. Free weights are real antiques, as was the bench press). It was very poorly looked after, and could not accomodate more than three people, which was surprising as the room was large enough to take far more equipment. and boasts good changing rooms, and a sauna and jacuzzi. As the hotel is promoted for sports (skiing, trekking and golf) as well as rest and mountain air, I would have thought that the clientele would demand decent fitness equipment. A strange lapse in an otherwise solid and traditional style of hotel. That said, the overall feel is of a well managed and visitor focused place, the staff are friendly and obliging, and seem to be a good team.
