“shoulda went to the wentworth”

Hubby and I stayed here 7 years ago and renewed our 25th anniversary in their gazebo. We decided to go here Jan 8 for our 32nd. We had a victorian village penthouse like last time ,well these rooms need some revamping. The jacuzzi is great but missing knobs, I had to hunt for the soap and shampoo. I called for ice and to no avail, they don't have any, then why put an ice bucket in the room. They now have a nice big flat screen tv on the wall, but to see it from bed you get a stiff neck, it needs to be on a swival. The property is still lit up at night, but no fires on sunday night. To stay here was 100 less than the Wentworth (we stayed there our past 2 times)but we thought for memory sakes we'd give Nestlenook a try.No more

I have given this est. a good rating in the past, but that was foor the ground only. This past January I stayed in one of the Victorian Village rooms with my fiance. The room itself was lovely, but the closet was small (chest high), and the whirlpool tub spit out black junk when turned on. We asked for maid service to clean it, but were told that maid service was extra. I am sure that was stated in the 10 page reservation document, but at $160 a night during the week with no breakfast included, we assumed standard maid service would be included. They did try to rectify the situation, but just fell short. I will continue to patronize the grounds, but my nights will be spent elsewhere.

“Disappointed, not what it used to be.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

This was our first time back to Nestlenook Estate in many years. I knew the Inn was closed and found out that the "Victorian Village" area that we had previously stayed in (at least 6 years ago) has not been renovated. Therefore, we decided to go with the newer Grand Victorian Penthouse. It is well appointed but they are not keeping up with things. There was food on the floor near the couch and the room smells terrible. The grounds are also run down. It was fine for a 2-night stay but we will not be back.

“Not what it used to be”

My family has stayed at Nestlenook several times in the past, both in summer and in winter, and despite the recent reviews regarding the property's deteriorating state, we booked four nights because of so many happy memories there. The property indeed is in decline, the main house is closed due to fire code issues, and the whole place seemed deserted. In fact, when we arrived, we thought Nestlenook had closed down again. We had requested our favorite room in Victorian Village, but upon entering it we were overwhelmed by a strong dog odor. The staff put us in a different room, but when we entered, someone's laundry was spinning in the dryer with a duffle bag nearby, the heat was on in the bedroom with the windows open on a warm summer day (the thermostat was set at 45), and the storage closet door was jammed and unusable. It turned out a maintenance man was doing his laundry in the room. We informed the staff that we did not wish to stay, and we were told the manager would call us the next day to discuss refunding our deposit (first night's stay). He didn't call, so I called him two days later to discuss the issue. Unfortunately, the manager insisted he smelled nothing unusual about the pet-friendly room, and he refused to refund the first night's charge, plus we were charged a $25 processing fee. So much for Nestlenook. Sometimes memories are best re-lived in our minds.

“Two vastly different stories”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2011

Just returned from a four night stay at the victorian village at nestlenook. I will firstly speak about the lodging. We rented a villa (included the penthouse and deluxe master suite). It was fantastic. The living area was spacious, it had a separate room for the kids to sleep in, and also had two large flat screen tv's in the master suite as well as one in the penthouse. The place was also very clean. It also comes with a very nice stainless steel gas grill. The only downside was it does not have any oven or stove top and only comes with a mini fridge.
The grounds of the estate are a completely different story. The property is beautiful but it is quite evident it is not being taken care of. In the walk ways there are weeds growing, the bathrooms by the main pool area were absolutely filthy (it appeared the toilet had overflowed and it was left like that even after we left). There is no staff to speak of with the exception of a desk clerk and one maintenance guy. Also, we had no way of getting rid of our trash as the dumpster that used to be there was no longer there. When I inquired we were told to bring the trash down to the office area and leave it on top of the dumpster and someone will put it in. The next afternoon it was evident no one put the trash in the dumpster as it was all over the ground. Other people had left trash where the dumpster used to be which caused a large black bear to roam in front of our villa while my two girls were playing on the swings-had to rush them into the villa.
If the grounds were up to snuff then I would give this place a 5. I hope they pay more attention to the grounds as I do love staying here.
