“NICE, BUT......”

THE BAD NEWS....We had made reservations for this visit. It was a Xmas gift from our children. We scanned the web site to see what to expect and it sounded great. The web site suggested checking in after 3pm. We arrived at about 4:30pm. The Inn appeared closed. As we got out of our car to check it out we were met, on the other side of the door by a women who was yelling at us not to park there. We had to yell back that we were guests there. She opened the door, reminded we could not park there and handed us an envelope stuck to the door. She said that was our room information and told us where to park out back. At this point, if we did not have the prepaid gift certificate,
I would have turned around and left. Who needs this kind of aggrevation. I asked if we could drop our stuff and then drive out back whick she finally agreed to. We came in the back door and she directed us to a stairway and we asked her which room. She said it was on our info sheet. It was not. She finally looked it up. It was on the 3rd floor.. We went up and found our room. Discovered no hot water. We decided to go down to the tavern for a drink and a meal. Before entering the tavern, we found hostile host and told her about the hot water. Her reply was so helpful..she said, "Oh, we have hot water down here". Don't you love it? I strongly suggested we will have hot water by the AM. She made no comment. .After our tavern visit, we headed for the dining area and were yelled at for trying to go in without her showing us a table. She did accomplish that without incident....Barely.

GOOD NEWS. The Inn is very New Hampshire, purposely retaining that decor which we enjoy. The tavern was very nice, good servers and entertainment. The food was very good. WED NITES are 2 for 1 prices and they do not scimp. Choices were excellant.

If you can avoid the hostess, you will have a great time.

“Very welcoming!!! A very charming tavern”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2010

I was about to write the review, and had to double-check to see if I was writing about the same place. Our experiences here were quite the opposite of some of the earlier reviews - we came for Thanksgiving dinner and received a hearty welcome. We didn't stay overnight at the inn as we were visiting relatives, but the tavern is very charming. Lots of smaller rooms so it has a nice, homey feel. A roaring fire near the bar. Comfortable seating. We had excellent service as we sat at a table near the Christmas tree. It was everything and anything you would want of a New England Inn - and really put us in the spirit for the holidays. The you could smell the wonderful aromas of food outside the tavern and it did not disappoint. The buffet they served was very good, though perhaps the desserts were not as good looking as they should have been, as the whipped cream seem to melt over time. The town is charming and we took a lovely walk after dinner. We had a wonderful time there and would definitely come again.

“They want your money but offer no welcome in return”

We have stayed at The Wildcat Inn and Tavern several times over the last 20 years and previous to this visit in October 2010 always found it a delightful and welcoming place to stay. The ownership has now changed and wow does it show. This time we met with a different and could-not-care-less atmosphere. As hotel guests we felt welcome only for the money that we spent. It was hard to find anyone to answer questions. On arrival we felt as though we were being a nuisance just for being there. We did not even realise that they no longer offer breakfast until breakfast time. The office was always empty and the morning we left we went looking for a staff member in order to settle our bill. She simply told us that she would charge it to the card. there was no hint of "'was everything okay? Did you enjoy your stay etc". Sad to say, we will not be visiting, The Wildcat Inn and Tavern again.

“Not worth the price- a dissapointment”

When we arrived, an envelope with my misspelled name was sitting on the office window. (The office was empty). We had to go searching for someone to show us where our room was (above the public dining room, which we had to walk through to reach). No one offered to help us carry our heavy bags up a flight of steep and narrow stairs. Wireless internet is advertised, but the only signal we got was from the Snowflake B&B across the street. When I inquired about the internet service, the gum-chewing maitre d' was unable to answer me; he said they didn't even have cable tv (they did) and gave the impression that I was being stupid to ask. A nice location, but it's in need of some customer relations training.

“Cozy Bar with Great Scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

I recently went to Lady's Night and had a great time. The bar had lots of character and the bartender was very charming. The food was fresh and tastey. I look forward too many more nights at the Tavern. I think I will try Hoot Night this week. PS the bartender had a lot to do with creating a lovely environment and my girlfriends and I will definitely be coming regularly.
