“Rough Around the Edges”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Somehow the combination of a big pub and guest rooms just doesn't come off as a comfortable experience to me. The rooms (we had 2) were dated New England style and a bit cramped. Things were clean, but old. The food in the pub was well, average pub food. I suppose this is a good place to crash for the night but I wouldn't want to plan an extended stay here,

Room Tip: We didn't have issues with noise from the pub but other do - see if you can pick a good spot. Th...

“Good food and music and a little creaky as an Inn”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

In the nearly forty years of coming to Jackson, we have never had a chance to stay at the Wildcat Inn portion of the Tavern. The restaurant and Pub have had great days and some lesser ones, but generally well worth an occasional meal or drink. The place does seem to buzz during ski season. The rooms at the Inn are quaint and the bed comfortable and once we got the steam heat figured out, the room was comfortable. The challenge are the thin walls and creaky doors and on the nights the Pub has a band, plan to listen and enjoy from the rooms. We would stay again because of its location and Tavern, but would be pressed to recommend to any one. It has the potential to be great, with the town and location, but that will require a significant investment?

Room Tip: Stay on the restaurant side, away from the Tavern/Pub. There are nights the bands do not play.

“Nice Inn with potential”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We recently stayed over New Years weekend. We had a great time, the hostess Jordan and host Richard were very pleasant. Had a very nice dinner on New Years, then drinks by the fire in the Tavern. Rooms were lovely but like the other reviews the rooms on the 2nd floor tend to be noisy. Loved the coffee in the morning, great mugs.
When checking out I requested a final invoice and was told there was not one. We have no idea what the final total was. Maybe just add a sentence to your welcome letter stating no check out required. When booking online a signature is usually required on arrival.
We enjoyed our stay and will come back, but I think the owners need to be much more visible during the morning and early evening hours especially if the staff is busy working.

Room Tip: I would try the 3rd floor

“Tavern Dinning”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

I feel terrible for the wait staff that works at this establishment. We arrived at 5:45PM with 2 kids for dinner and didn't see our food until 7:30...and it was cold. The waitress was embarrassed. We watched tables walk out on their bill of drinks b/c they waited too long for their food and I witnessed the manager making the waitress pay out for the tab that was walked out on. This is a poorly mismanaged place and kitchen and the wait staff should not be punished for that. Our food was ok...it was a shame that our and others' experience that evening was a joke. The cover of the book looks great, but the story sucks.

“Over the river and thru the woods once again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

We returned to the Wildcat Inn for Thanksgiving this year for another warm and welcoming holiday. We arrive on time to enjoy a Thanksgiving buffet that included everything from the usual turkey to some excellent haddock, a great prime rib and a slightly dry stuffed pork loin. Nice selection of vegetables, soups, salad, rolls, corn bread, crackers, and cheese. Food was good, service was excellent. The owner, kitchen staff, waitresses and chefs came by to ask how we were enjoying our meal. We notice they made a special accomodation for a small boy at another table who would only eat a hot dog. The desserts were greatly improved from my last review, this time keeping the whip cream in a special container on the side and the dessert selection was expanded. Just be aware that they will charge for every non-alcoholic refill drink. We truly enjoyed our experience at this New England Inn and will be sure to come back in the future.
