“X-cellent”

Well, we are back at out favorite getaway and JUST returned to our room after being in the outside pool for last 3 hours. Outside temp is 33 and pool water is like a jacuzzi! Snow all around and swimming outside! Amazing!! Have to respond to a reviewer (renault55) who gave Nordic Village a TERRIBLE review. Are you SURE you were at Nordic Village? Iv'e been coming last 5 years and stayed in MANY different rooms and NEVER had a bad experience. The rooms are ALWAYS super clean! They keep the grounds immaculate, and the pools are crystal clear! This weekend we are staying in a one bedroom up at the highlands and the room is HUGE! Fireplace, jacuzzi, washer-dryer, and great deck with a fabulous view of the Mts. What more could we ask for! And, wireless internet also! Sooo, again, renault55, when you finally Do find out where you REALLY were, let us know so we can avoid that place!! But in the meantime, find the Nordic Village in Jackson, N.H. and i'll GUARANTEE you won't give them a bad review! And i DON'T work for, or am affiliated with N.V. in any way!! I'm just a happy renter who LOVES to come up here a few times a year to get away from the city. Nordic Village, "YOUR THE BEST!!"

Room Tip: Try an efficienty unit. They are beautiful. This weekend a one bedroom at the Oslo up the Highlands...

“Holiday Ski Trip”

We choose this place based on the good reviews we read in advance, we were disappointed. The location was great, the price the same as higher caliber condo rentals at Stratton, Mammoth, Squaw, Snowbird. We stayed in a unit in Grimstad that stank of old cigarette smoke, we were told it was not possible as all units are non-smoking (there were ash trays in the unit). The carpets were threadbare and the outside lights shown into the bedroom at night- the paper pull-down shades were inadequate to block the light, what a shame, making sleep difficult. Our clothes absorbed the cig. odor.
The pull-out sofa in the living room was well worn and the springs stuck out. The kids found sleeping on the floor more comfortable. The pots in the cupboards had been put away without being washed so I needed to clean pots before we could cook. Old school, small TV in the unit with a DVD player that did not function properly. No internet. The kids loved the pool and hot tub. The water level in the outdoor hot tub was quite low-- good for small people but needed to be refilled and cleaned. The unit did not have a recycling bin it- there was a recycling dumpster outside but locked up tight so we felt obligated to carry out the recycling to make sure it happened. The unit had enough supplies to cook basic dinners, open wine, popcorn, etc.
Speaking with other guests it did sound like there is a high degree of variability in the condos. I would liken the interior of the unit we stayed in to a stale well worn motel. The view out the sliding door was great.

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review about your recent stay with us at Nordic Village. I apologize that your stay was less than perfect and I wish we would have known of your displeasure. Our aim is to make sure all of our guests are happy and comfortable. If we had known that your accommodations were not satisfactory we would have been happy to find alternative arrangements. All of our units are non-smoking and I will make sure that the ashtrays are removed from the unit. Years ago ashtrays were on our inventory list and they must have been overlooked when we removed ashtrays from our units. Our non-smoking policy is very strict and our housekeepers report any signs of smoking in a unit. Each unit is inspected prior to arrival so I am surprised that they were unaware of such a strong cigarette odor. Again, had we known, we would have moved you and your family into a different room immediately. As far as the sleep sofa, we will certainly replace the mattress as we do have new mattresses in our inventory right here on property. Many times we are not aware of a sleep sofa being uncomfortable and if a guest reports it, we have the stock to replace it at that moment. The television is a flat panel, albeit not a large one, but I think it fits nicely in the living room. Our rooms within Nordic Village do not have WIFI as they are amongst the trees and it is very difficult to get a clear signal. We do offer WIFI at our indoor pool area and our fitness center. All condominiums do have a cable modem that the internet is accessed through. If the modem was not available in the unit, we would have certainly been happy to deliver one to the unit, had we known. Our housekeeping and maintenance staff work very hard to make sure that our units are in perfect working order. When they fall short, we make sure to let them know as they do take pride in their work. I am sorry that some of your pots and pans were not clean and I will discuss this with our staff. Again, thank you for taking the time to write your review as we really do appreciate the feedback.

“Clearing the air about the bear”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I normally don't waste my time disputing what people post, but I do have to say that there are some people who are being less than honest. Some rooms need help, and the staff will do what they can to help. It must be hard when they don't actually own a unit to somehow force an owner to create the taj mahal. The condos are in the National Forest and there should be an expectation that animals may be around the property. There are brochures and flyers about the bears all over the property AND, the staff always gives each guest a pamphlet that has a whole section about wildlife safety. They don't hand you the pamphlet, they actually read it to everyone they check in. To not know, is to completely ignore the staff's instructions. I know also that when you call the desk because you see a bear, they send staff up to shoo them. This is probably not even needed, since the bears seem to run away from people anyway. For the one review mentioning bears around the campfire and pools, how can a bear cross a bridge or hop a fence to get in to those areas? If you hate a place, that is fine, just please at least be honest and stick to the facts, so other people know the truth about what they are in for.

Room Tip: Chateaus and anything above the Nordic Village will get you the better views.

lets face it, the place is just ok. The scenery was amazing but everything else was just ok. i had one thought going thru my head all weekend and that was," this place needs a facelift." good size unit but had a musty smell. i hate to be so picky but we paid good money and was a bit let down. not a bad place but they need to spend some money to update the units. ours anyway

Thank you for your recent comments regarding your stay with us. I do apologize that we did not meet your expectations. I agree that some of our rooms do need the furnishings updated a bit. Although everything is functioning and in good condition, a fresh look is what is needed. We are in the process of updating our rooms. It will take some time but we are looking forward to the end result. Some of our rooms are down a level of stairs and because they are at ground level, will get a bit of a musty smell if the dehumidifier is not running. Again, I do apologize and wish we would have known about your discomfort as we would have certainly tried our best to find another room that was more to your liking. Thank you again for your comments.
