“You'll Feel At Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We stayed for three nights in the Herb Garden room. We had chosen the smaller room because we were visiting family in the area and knew we'd only be there to sleep. That is pretty much how it worked out, but we wished we had had more time at this lovely inn. The room was perfect for us. The bathroom with that room is the largest at the inn, and was very nice, having little extra's like lotions, soaps, shower cap, etc.
Al and Nancy are gracious, friendly, welcoming hosts. Nancy made unique, scrumptious breakfasts that we wished we could have fully enjoy but we are not big breakfast eaters....we enjoyed the most we could. We were given little baggies of the delicious scones to take with us as we headed out each day.
We met only one of their beloved dogs, Ben, as Bo had just had an operation on his hip. Ben is a large friendly dog and he made us feel part of the family as he greeted us on arrival and we saw him through our stay.
We have to comment on the linens and towels as we know many find that important. The sheets were fabulous - would love to get some for home. The towels were thick and soft. When I first used the washcloth I thought I'd picked up a towel instead it was so thick. Very luxurious.
You can't go wrong making a reservation to stay at Shaker Hill if you're ever in the area, or passing through.

Room Tip: If you are a larger person you may not find the Herb Garden Room a good choice only because it is th...

“Oct. 2011 visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Shaker Hill B&B is out of town in a nice area, plenty of parking for everyone. Yes, Nancy has cookies out during the day and hot water for tea any time! My kind of place! The location is very close to tons of attractions. Specifically, we enjoyed tasting ciders at Poverty Lane Orchard and driving by Dartmouth! And a short trip to VT (just a few minutes away) is Billings Farm (www.billingsfarm.org) - An excellent stop for anyone that enjoys museums, history, influential people of the 19th-20th centuries, land preservation, farming.

Our rooms were spaceous, super clean, and very comfortable. The owners Al and Nancy were super helpful in finding us things to see and places to eat. We ate at Salt Hill Pub, probably our best meal of the trip (Beef and Guiness stew, tasty! Woodchuck Spiced Hard Cider, yum!) AND the pub has a night of irish music, just a group of fellows that sit at a table and play music. It's consistent music, a good level of sound (we could still visit) and I could have stayed there all night listening!

Okay, one slight negative, the place is right on the road. But, the road is fairly quiet and we stayed in the bedroom closest to the road and slept just fine, no noise.

And, the dogs are a bit goofy, but Al and Nancy keep track of them fairly well. Except for after breakfast when the older dog jumped up and kissed a guest... lol

“Wonderful House, Wonderful Hosts!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

We stayed at Shaker Hill during a driving tour of New England and had only one regret - that we had only booked a one night stay.
The Inn is beautifully decorated and we immediately warmed to Joe and Cathy, who were delightful hosts.
In summary, comfortable and charming room, friendly people, delicious cookies and perfect breakfast!

“"A step back in time"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

My hubby and I stayed in the Charles Hewes room. Nice room and very clean bathroom. Enjoyed looking at the antique toys downstairs along with the other antiques in the home. Breakfast was really good, baked pears and french toast. Al and Nancy were great host.
