“We are going elsewhere...you should too!”

We have been attempting to work with the Sales Director/Wedding Planner (Pauline) to reserve rooms and host a post wedding brunch for the morning after the wedding. After several unanswered phone messages (she says that we only called once) we finally had a response from another employee after sending an email to the general email box of the inn. My fiancee was assured that she would have details of the brunch and room reservations by "Tuesday at the latest". On Wednesday we had an email from another Inn employee discussing just the rooms....and she had the wrong date! I don't fault this employee as she surely got her misinformation from the wedding planner. Further she made no mention of the brunch we are trying to plan. It's very unfortunate. It's a beautiful property, but when planning a wedding the "wing it" approach doesn't work. Trying to work with these people will add stress to you life. I recommend you stay away.

“Restaurant Only - Terrible Meal”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

This review applies to restaurant only. My family took another to the Three CHimneys Inn to for a celebration. My beef, ordered rare, was delivered more than well done. "No problem," the waitress returned it to the kitchen and would have another in "just a few minutes". Despite repeated queries to the waitress the meat was not re-delivered for more than 45 minutes; by that time the rest of the part had finished their entrees. The manager did nothing to produce my meal.
I would describe the rest of the food as lackluster. A house specialty salad of pears and beats with walnuts and goat cheese sounded appealing; unfortunately the pears and beets were as hard and flavorful as wood. I expect one can get more appealing vegatables right of the shelf at Hanniford.

“So Charming <3”

My husband and I have stayed here several times, both in room 12 and 14. We love room 14. Cozy comfortable room, warm fireplace and bubbly tub. Our rooms are always clean and charming. The staff is polite. The grounds beautiful. We've visited the bar but never stayed for dinner. The breakfast is always good and filling. We will be staying here again NYE to enjoy our anniversary. If you are interested in a cozy, private B&B verses a major chain place I would highly recommend staying here.

“Beautiful rooms, terrific location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

My wife and I enjoy getting away to Portsmouth for the weekend, and when we do the Three Chimneys Inn is always the first place I check. The staff is friendly, the grounds are great for a walk or kayak (the inn abuts the river), and it's a short drive to downtown Portsmouth, where there's great food & bars.

“Unique get-away”

My fiance and I stayed in room 17 at the Three Chimney's Inn to celebrate our engagement. My initial reaction to the room was a little disappointed--there were some cobwebs on the ceiling, we brought wine and cheese, but there was no mini fridge in the room to keep the cheese cold, the paint and border in the room and tiling around the fireplace seemed a little tacky and took away from other very charming features-- for example, the huge beautiful bed and nice furniture, spaciousness of the room, the nice bathroom with a huge tub and gorgeous sink.

We immediately went down to the Tavern for dinner. They had duck on the menu as a special, which my fiance ordered and raved about the entire trip. I had the lobster macaroni and cheese, which was very good, but also very rich and filling. There was a talented gentleman playing acoustic guitar, which added to the cozy feel of the tavern. The music was a tad too loud though.

The huge graveyard outside our window added to a creepy atmosphere at night. After sitting by the gas fireplace, we climbed up onto the massive bed and fell asleep. Around 1:00 A.M. my fiance's phone randomly rebooted making the "DROID!"noise. At 1:48 A.M., I was trying to fall back asleep, but my fiance and I started hearing voices in the room. The clock/radio had been physically switched into the ON position. My fiance also swears to have heard the sound of someone walking around in our room in the middle of the night.

All and all it was one of our more unique vacations and we didn't have to travel very far. The complimentary soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion were fabulous. The breakfasts in the tavern were delicious and all of the waitresses were excellent hosts. Room 17 was in a corner and it felt very isolated. We hardly noticed the other guests and felt like we were staying in a home away from home. The heat and fireplace kept the room very cozy the entire stay. We plan on visiting this inn again maybe to celebrate our 1 year anniversary.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! The paranormal activity you described comes as no surprise. This historic property is home to many kind spirits from the past who used to even take care of the cobwebs for us. The food here is undoubtedly the best around and I will pass your compliments to Chef David. I'm glad that you enjoyed my music; I play in the tavern every thursday and other nights throughout the week. Anyhow, congratulations on your engagement. We hope to see you again!
