Stayed at the Mount Washington Hotel this past weekend with wife and 9yr old daughter. All of us really enjoyed the trip. Highlights:
-Arrived Friday evening, valet parking is included in the resort fee. Front staff was very attentive taking care of all the bags and ski equipment. Check-in was smooth.
-Room was a double family room with bathroom in the middle, pull-out sofa bed in the small adjoining room. My daughter loved it, though older people might not think the sofa bed was super comfy. Our main bed was extremely comfortable. Bathroom was large but the toilet location was a little awkward, but I suspect each room is a little different due to the layout.
-Got ski passes at the activity desk, saving any need to wait at the mountain. The hotel was near/at occupancy that weekend but did not experience significant waits anywhere.
-Had a drink at the Cave, was fun and live band was playing.
-Tried to make reservations at Stickney's earlier in the week but it was booked so we ate Sat night in the main dining room. Food was good and wait staff was very attentive. Plates were nicely warmed, though I would have expected the between-course breads to be warmed also. I would eat here again. The breakfast, also in the main dining room is a very nice, high-end spread.
-My daughter and I did a 20minute dog sled ride. That was a lot of fun, the guide was really personable and my daughter loves dogs.
-While we were dog-sledding, my wife went over to the spa for a couple hours to get a massage. She loved it. Said you could easily spend 1/2day to full day there.
-Outdoor pool was nice and warm, but it's chilly walking down (that's part of the fun, otherwise you'd stick to the indoor pool). The view was spectacular Sunday morning with the sun on the mountains and the steam coming off the pool surface. There's a heated locker room down by the outdoor pool where you can change/shower rather than race back in a wet suit.
-Downhill Skiing: This was our main activity focus for the weekend. We used the shuttle over to the ski mountain across the road, that worked great saving the hassle of loading/unloading car and parking. Ski's and poles are checked in a storage space off the side of the hotel front porch making for a quick grab and go, just pop on your boots and hop on the chairlifts. Bretton Woods mountain is a great family ski place, lots of beginner/intermediate terrain with a good amount of advanced/glade ski areas. Saturday was busy with some 3-5minute waits in the lift lines, Sunday skiing was not as busy and didn't wait in a lift line once. Conditions were great both days, trails were nicely groomed. It's definitely a bonus to stay across the road and be first ones on the mountain at 8am.
-My daughter was a little disappointed they didn't have on-demand movies in the hotel room, and I was a little surprised but after thinking about it they have so many activities at the hotel you really don't need it. So we went down and watched a movie they put on in one of the meeting rooms for kids. There were also scavenger hunts each evening, but we were off eating or doing other activities at those times.
-There are also a 3-4 nice stores in the hotel lower levels providing most everything you might want (snacks, clothes, flowers, kids toys, ....).
The hotel is definitely a resort vs. a hotel with stuff nearby. They have integrated the winter experience nicely, and the activities desk was efficient and friendly. Recommend making reservations at key dining/activities that you want. Definitely will be coming again.
