We found this hotel to be quaint and ideally located for ease in getting to the Cog Railway. It is an older hotel but is nostalgic in it's decor and style. We felt it was a great deal for the price and found the owners, Steve and (I think) Laurie to be extremely accommodating and kind. In just a day they made us feel as though we had been friends for a while. We would have no hesitation in returning should we visit the area in the future.

This hotel was not good. I felt like we were in the movie "Vacation" when we opened the door to the room. Felt like saying "Edna, this is your room!. It stunk of mildew/dampness. We tried to get another room but they couldn't switch us. We actually looked around for another hotel, being willing to sacrifice the price, but it was a Saturday night in October and everything was booked. We got Lysol from the office and sprayed the entire carpet and that made it liveable. The next morning we were able to switch rooms for the second night and that room didn't smell and they were very helpful about the the switch. I'm not fussy when it comes to hotels but this was too much for me. Would never recommend it.

Musty, dank and dingy. We stayed in a room that had an overwhelming smell of mildew! After one night (just a few hours) we were stuffed up and our belongings wreaked. Was it the old couch, the bed or the nasty carpet? When we spoke to the staff of the issue, they told us that they were already aware of the problem after having numerous previous complaints! Customer service was unsatisfying.

My family and I spent one night at the Above The Notch Motor Inn. We felt that the value for our money was great. The place was clean, staff are VERY helpful, and friendly. The place is not fancy and would not appeal to those that prefer 4- and 5-star hotels. The location is wonderful. We plan to stay here again on our next visit to Franconia Notch.
