“Never going back”

We stopped at Va City on our way to Yosemite. The bartender at the front desk was rude and screamed that our card was declined when they had misentered a number and it wasn't our fault. After checking in, and carrying our luggage up 3 flights of stairs, we found the room to be quite dingy and the toilet was unclean. At night, you could definetly hear noises from the street as well as noises in the hotel. The temperature was over 90 degrees and there was no ac. We spent one night and that was all. We checked out the next morning, letting the staff know about the unclean rooms among other things.

“Awesome and interesting”

The hotel is a step back in time and a treat to stay at! The rooms are small but comfortable, but don't expect any amenities. The beds are comfortable, but there is no TV, airconditioner and for the ladies a hair dryer. The bathrooms are very small. But the room was clean and the view is amazing! Ask for a room on the 3rd floor with a view. But warning if there's alot of activities in town it will be noisey up front as you face the main street and all the bars. But the town does quiet down by 10pm.
You have to be able to walk up lots of stairs, especially if you're on the 3rd floor. There is no parking lot so you either park on the street in front or up the hill on the street behind. If you park behind you can come in the back which is the 2nd floor rooms (avoiding most stairs if you're on that floor).
The bar downstairs is a lot of fun and the staff is great! There is a ghost tour that leaves from there each night at 8:30 and is tons of fun...and a bit scarey too.
I would stay there again without a doubt!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 3rd floor facing east (great sunrise). There are only 2 of these rooms

“Not so good... probably would stay elswhere in town”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

It was our second trip to the Silver Queen, the first time the weather was much cooler and the room seemed much cleaner and better cared for. I suspect what has happened is the owner(s) have decided to leverage the room rates for as high as they can get without reinvesting in the building, hotel & bar sections. The place leaves much to be desired over what it was 5 or 10 years back and certainly it has degraded much over the last 40 plus years we've been traveling to Virginia City. If you feel the urge to succumb to the notion of spending a night at the Silver Queen, then visit in September or October and stay in a room in the back of the hotel (not facing the main street). Stay only one night, plan to eat dinner in Carson or Reno, only one place called Sawdust Corners is a true cafe and it closes at 5:00 p.m. Satisfy your curiosity & then try other motels in town, they are much better and cost about the same or less, depending upon the season.

Room Tip: Try it if you must, but other places in town are much better value for the cost!

“Not for someone who wants modern amenities but good location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

We stayed here while in town visiting for a wedding. It's a historic building where rooms are supposed to be haunted. They tout that the stay is like being there in 1800s but the rooms look like they had been somewhat updated until the 70s and then they just stopped. We stayed in a room with a full size bed but I'm pretty sure it's not a modern full because it was barely long enoughfor me and I'm 5'6". We had a shower in our bathroom, but I saw a room with just a claw-foot tub directly next to the bed. We felt that even if u really like that old west type of feel, they could still do a little more to make the rooms more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. But you are staying directly on the main street where all the shops, restaurants, and saloons are. This would be a good choice if you are on a tight budget and don't plan to spend much time in your room.

“Old Ghost Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2011

This Hotel was more than I expected for a 1870's hotel. My husband and I loved it. We stayed in room 18. It is very creepy and beautiful all at the same time. We had a restless night due to the constant temperature changes and crazy dreams, but that could of been from the redbulls we drank during our ghost tour, which was Awesome!. Hands down the Washoe Club had the most paranormal activity in the whole town, just the energy when you walk in there you want to run out, which I did!!! Make sure to bring tons of batteries because they drain very fast in this town. Best bar is the Bucket of Blood, the owner is very nice and welcoming, oh he is also very handsome :). I did not see any ghosts on this trip but the most paranormal thing that happen to me was: I was showering in the morning (and this hotel has no AC so very warm) and all of a sudden my feet got freezing cold as if someone or something was stepping in with me, I immediately screamed for my husband and by this time the whole bathroom was ice cubes cold, after my husband came in, whatever went away but I was done with my shower. So Girls make sure your aware of the PERVERT GHOST who likes to join you in the shower..
