Let me be clear: There are probably many nicer hotel rooms in Tahoe.
I would characterize the Lakeview Inn and Casino room that we had as a "nice" college dorm room; by hotel standards, it was tidy but run down.
The staff, however, was quite nice and helpful. Daisy in the dining room was cheerful, and the Filipina at the Cashier booth was friendly. Mike who checked us in was very welcoming and pleasant. Everyone says "Sir" or "brother" and it makes you feel like how things used to be in Tahoe in the old days. Not to be flippantly ironic, but it feels like Reno--still a small town where people are genuine, and you are not just another customer representing a dollar statistic.
The down side was the casino cocktail service--totally nonexistent. Playing video poker for an hour, waitress finally came around, but only served a regular, and ignored me. Went to the bar, and was ignored too. Also, if you are an advantage-seeking "smart" gambler, you would laugh at odds on the video poker.
The facility is more like a motel than hotel. You can drive up to your room, and park five feet from your room, which I personally like very much, but you might not. The ceilings are subject to trodding feet. There was no central heating--only noisy in-room a/c and heat. The walls are kind of thin, but not too bad. Bathrooms are small, but clean with lots of hot water in the shower.
So if you want to use this as a ski lodge, and just gamble a bit, you'll be well served. It's quiet, safe. clean and mellow. There are some good restaurants on site and nearby (Sushi Pier is the BOMB). But it's not a good place for gaming. For that, stay in Reno at the Peppermill or Atlantis.
Room Tip: There are okay rooms, and not great rooms. It's more a motel than hotel. We stayed in the Edgewo...
