“KOA @ Boomtown”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2012

A large paved parking lot, rundown. Not good KOA kampground. Laundry room in need of serious cleaning. Slight road noise. Quite a few permanent residents which have old units. Some sites over look river, train goes by all hrs of day & night, may bother some we enjoyed. Cabelas here along with Boomtown, & high priced gas station.

“Rooms Good The Rest SUCKS!”

I have stayed there fifteen plus times because they give me freebies for being a 'high roller'. I like the rooms due to being away from crime-ridden downtown. NIce rooms. The restaurants could not get any worse. The lobster buffet is a total joke, they boil the things and they taste like rubber which is why all the dipping stuff they offer. The rest of the buffet if subpar at best, nothing good. Go to Sizzlers for a salad bar. They have a Denny's option but it is as bad as I have ever been too, service and food all equal one word - yuck! Drinks watered down, you name it just another Nevada scam in the desperate times they suffer under. I have been all over Nevada as a VIP, this one ranks poorly at best and with the new ownership it has only gotten worse. Stay for the rooms, go into town for food and gaming.

Room Tip: Get a room on the north side away from the freeway and on fifth or sixth floor so as to avoid the tr...

“OK Stay at Boomtown”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 April 2012

Got an offer for free rooms and buffet at Boomtown so decided to stay there and try it out. We usually stay at the Nugget or Harrah'sm but for free, why not? For a free room, it was pretty good. If I was paying the $99 regular rate, it was average. My room was very spacious, 2 queen beds (as requested), free wireless in the room are all positives. Negatives are the room was a little old and dark, pool was closed (even though its indoor).

Free tickets to the lobster buffet so checked it out. 1 hour wait on a Sat night. Food was average or below average. The lobster was tough and chewy and really tasteless. The other dished weren't much better. If I paid the $31.99 per person price I would have been pissed off. They also have a Denny's and Peet's on site. The Peet's was very good. In the future, not likely to eat at Boomtown, rather drive somewhere and get decent food.

Will stay again if offered for free (I gamble there occasionally), otherwise, will stay at Nugget (better food, pool and arcade) or downtown.

“Return trips”

My husband and I have been to Boomtown several times. We're not crazy about the bigger, more crowded places to stay in Reno itself. We like the fact Boomtown has everything we need for a relaxed stay and drive into Reno for the car show. We're always happy to return to Boomtown. The price is good and it's not too far from Plymouth where we live. My sister comes from Albuquerque to meet us there sometimes.

when i went to check in, the lady at frontdesk says EXPEDIA did not forward confirmation to them, and therefore I would have to pay more for the deluxe queen suite; i wasted 20min waiting for the manager to show up. she was curt and abrupt, but i finally got the lower expedia rate. the suite was good size 745 sq feet, but the high pressure flush of the toilet too loud; also the inwall ac-heat units very noisy. the one in bedroom did not turn on and off at the desired setting; the all u can eat lobster buffet is now $38 per person, up from $25 less than 3 years ago. we stay here bec of reasonable rates v truckee ca lodging, but wished boomtown had a shuttle bus to local ski areas.

Room Tip: ask for room w hi def tv; the suites on second and third floor have ancient tvs. also avoid suite 22...
