“You Cant Be Here!”

Well, I am a resident of Reno, and my wife came off of an 8 hour flight to visit me. She was very tired, and we were looking for a place to stay. I had a couple of people recommend me to try out the Desert Rose. I went to drop her off at the office to inquire about it, and apparently she decided to get a room.

I made the mistake of going to the soda machine outside of the office and smoking a quick cigarette. Some guy came out of the closest room to the office (who is apparently the part manager or owner) and started questioning me and tellign me theres an 8 PM curfew there. I explained to him that I had just brought my wife from the airport to try to find a place for the week. He started lecturing me about how it's not allowed there and that if she was renting the place by herself I would have to leave the premises immediately.

Yes, people welcome back to grade school. They will call the police on any visitors to any room after 8 pm on ANY NIGHT. Absolutely rediculous. You would think a motel that isnt even half full at the time we arrived there would like a little bit of patronism, but apparently not. These 2 young guys (the one that lives behind the front office, and the guy working in the office) didn't seem to care one way or another.

After the exchange with the young guy in the apartment there, my wife cancelled her weekly (probably would have been monthly) transaction and we decided to move on. This place seems to be left in the hands of some young guys that have no clue what it means to earn a living or how to judge or evaluate the value of a good paying non trouble causing customer. The whole situation left us without a place to stay for the night and I will post this experience and more on my other hotel reccommendations blog, and everywhere else around the internet where this hotel is concerned. i wont even start to comment on how trashy the place looked because it was totally irrelveant to my experience.

“Econo Lodge not Desert Rose Inn”

I did not stay at this hotel. I booked throught AAA in 5-07. After a late night flight, I spent 1&1/2 hour looking for this hotel only to find it was an old Econo Lodge. No where did it say Desert Rose Inn and no street #. When I finally found it at Midnight, the office was closed. They agreed not to charge me and I stayed somewhere else.

Location was not great. Room was not very pleasant, i.e. small and little dirty. Could smell smoke even though it was non-smoking room. Good for a nights stay, and don't want to spend day or multiple nights

“Relieved”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2006

Travelodge's website doesn't do justice of what I found upon driving onto the property. The property looks so much better! It was salmon-colored or maybe even a pinkish or southwest style. I was a little bit uneasy booking this property based on the pictures alone, but thought for the price during Labor Day weekend was attractive enough. It's about 2 blocks away from the Sands and 3 blocks from the El Dorado; not too bad, but considering the area, we still drove to the casinos. We had gone to Reno for the Rib Cook Off.

Check in: We checked in a little after 2pm, but found that 2 of the 3 rooms we booked were not ready yet. In fact, the room I was told was ready wasn't really ready yet. The housekeeper was still making the bed and replenishing the toiletries in the bathroom. It was about a 10 minute wait, but it was nothing to get too upset about.

The room (#233): It's just your basic run of the mill motel room with king bed, table and 2 chairs, TV, and AC. The extras were the refrigerator, shampoo/conditioner, vanity, and walk-in closet. I had plenty of towels and the water pressure was excellent. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were really lumpy. The TV surprisingly had alot of channels to choose from. I had a quiet location set back in the corner of the property away from the street and sunlight! But it was still fine because I needed darkness to sleep. Motel room curtains tend not to shut correctly, but my room was set so back, I didn't have to worry.

Check out: Because I had 3 rooms booked and said that we would pay for our rooms separately, there was a miscommunication between myself and the owners. It was quickly resolved, and the owner (the husband) gave me his business card and told me to call him, if I happen to get double-charged for one of the 3 rooms. He was very apologetic and made sure the problem was solved. I was impressed!

I was also impressed of other staff who treated my friends' hotel room. There was a problem with a broken lamp and the housekeeper and the service guy were professional and apologetic concerning that issue.

I would definitely stay at this motel again. It was like a Motel 6, but cheaper!

“Not bad for the price”

I stayed at this lovely motel for one night was pleasantly surprised. I used a coupon rate of $40/night and would easily have paid $60/night.

The room was clean, the parking lot was safe and the hotel is in walking distance to the major downtown casinos.
