Hotel was very clean and nice. The food at Cal Neva has gone downhill and was terrible....
i recently stayed at the Cal Neva and I enjoyed it. I stsyed from nov 10th to the 12th it was a great location I walked one block from the train station to the hotel. Its in walking distance to every hotel and to my bank. the hotel itself was ok it was clean the elevators were slow and old. The only complaint I had was it took 10 min for the shower to get hot. There were no black chunks comming out the faucets. I was on the 14th floor I had a great view. Im use to the Peppermill Hotel Casino cause I got married there and went every anniversary.i decided to go to a cheaper hotel since my divorce 7months ago and its no Peppermill but its great for the price.Great food and great location and friendly staff when I go back jan 2012 I will be staying there.
This was the worst experience ever. Security is non existent in the hotel portion. A knife was found in one of the other rooms, and the hotel took no responsibility whatsoever. When I turned on the bathroom faucet, black chunks even came out with the water.
The Cal Neva Hotel and Casino in Reno is a nice place to play. It has a Railroad theme throughout the Casino and the neon signs outside. Dealers were nice, but the drinks came slow.
I did not eat or stay there, so I cannot comment on those aspects of the place.
Its Location is near Harrahs, but all the way on the South end of the Downtown Casinos. Definitely walkable though.
Overall I give this Casino a grade of "B"
Honestly, the Cal-Neva cannot be considered a resort. The hotel does not have an inviting atmosphere whatsoever. Over a period of two weeks observing all the hotels in downtown Reno, I constantly saw "many" street transients and panhandlers inside and around the Cal Neva more than any other hotel. The dregs like to hang out at the Cal Neva because in my opinion, management has decided that any type of renovation of the hotel is not worth it. Which in turn draws a "specific type" of customer to the hotel. The Cal Neva needs a serious face lift to be blunt. It was by far the dirtiest hotel in Reno. The employees seem to be aware of the bad reputation of the hotel, and for the most part do NOT exude a happy demeanor on the job.
