A few of my friends and I flew in to Las Vegas and stayed at this hotel. Though it's not one of the most 'popular' hotel/casino on the strip, we wanted something a little more quiet and reserved. The moment we checked in, though, we realized maybe we should have stayed somewhere off the strip. The staff was friendly but since I work at a five-star resort, I am unfortunately always comparing hotels to the one back at home. It takes a lot to 'wow' me. It's a natural reaction that I can't help. The room we stayed in was okay although it took a long time to get checked in. We also got assigned the wrong room; apparently someone was already occupying it. I guess the good thing is that being that I work in a hotel, I also understand that mistakes happen and everything can go wrong very quickly. We went to eat at Banana Leaf. The staff was friendly but I noticed that instead of treating us like we mattered, they were more focused on just getting everyone through the line. The food was okay. Kind of cold. The waitress was somewhat stand-offish and it took a while for her to get us the things we requested. One woman even mentioned to her coworker that she was in a rush to get to lunch. I was beginning to wonder why we bothered staying here. And then we went to the pool! And that's when I finally began to feel like I was on vacation.
We went to the pool, somewhat surprised to see that it was full. We thought that it wouldn't be as full as it was. We were hoping for a quieter experience. We went to the counter, requested towels and found out that there weren't anymore left. Frustrated, we asked to speak to the pool supervisor. He was so helpful. I'm not sure how he did it but he was able to get us towels within minutes and profusely apologized for the inconvenience. We asked him if it was always this crowded, and mentioned that we had hoped for something secluded and relaxing. He then helped us by setting up some chairs away from everyone else and to our surprise, it was very relaxing! He even let us know that there is poolside drink service and again, to our suprise, he recommended some of the items on the menu! He's the one that helped make the experience an unforgettable one. I honestly think that some of the employees at the resort I work at could learn something from him. He clearly took the initiative to not only do his job but go above and beyond to make his guests feel like they were the only ones there. When we offered a tip before leaving, he refused and said he was simply doing his job. How great!
If you ever go to the Riviera pool, ask for Brady Smith. I will definitely be returning.
