I stayed here as part of a post-wedding party trip over New Year. I thought we'd stay in some garish hotel on the Strip but we didn't. On paper this place seemed amazing. Set a little back in from the noise, but across the road from the Hard Rock. The design element to the place made it seem interesting. I did question how it could be a "boutique hotel", having so many rooms (I still don't know).
Check in was great. The design of the lobby area is interesting. I liked it but it was very LA. The staff were delightful, despite it being such a busy time. We headed to our room through the big open area in the centre of the hotel. It made me wish it was hotter as it reminded me of a resort hotel.
Our room was huge. It was clean, spacious, modern. Again, not exactly my design taste but I did appreciate it. The bathroom was massive too - although it didn't have a bath. We immediately went to see our friend who arrived before us. They seemed rather flustered and the first thing they said was "if you have a room with an adjoining door - MOVE NOW". Apparently they had some noisy neigbours in the room next to them and could hear everything. They ended up in a better room and we didn't really bother.
Our room was quiet actually - until the next night and a group checked in. You can hear everything through the doors - everything. You can even hear them breathing - no joke. The last thing I wanted was a group of early twenty-somethings coming back early in the morning, screaming (or talking!). However, the front desk moved us immediately, with no questions asked, so a problem was avoided (front desk didn't question me so it must be a common thing).
The restaurant in the lobby is good, but with so many other things in the city I don't think I'd go back. The deep fried macaroni cheese was pretty amazing.
Location was good but as with everywhere in Vegas, distance can be misleading. It can take a good while to walk to the strip. Even getting to the Hard Rock takes a while as they're so strict about jaywalking! There is a Subway next to the hotel, a laundry and a booze shop too which were all handy.
The one thing which infuriated me beyond belief was the absence of fitness facilities onsite. I booked on Expedia which still actually says there are 24 hour fitness facilities. The Rumor's own website didn't say this to be fair - but I only ever stay at properties with some kind of gym. You can get a special rate to use the gym at the Hard Rock, but it really isn't worth the hassle. Expedia still haven't given me a satisfactory response to my complaint.
I had a wonderful time in Vegas and this was a lovely hotel - and all the women in my group loved it. Next time I go back I'll stay in one of the iconic ones but I guess that isn't for everyone.
