the rooms were clean, the tv's could have been larger. The dealers had a hard time understanding basic english. Example I wanted to buy in with $500 I wanted $100 worth of chips at $5 an colored up for the rest ie, $400 in larger chips they could not follow or understand.the lines for the food were long an slow, they need tro get better on the food service. Of all not a bad place to stay but it's OK....

For various reasons, we were unable to stay at a hotel on "The Strip" this trip to Las Vegas. I have been downtown before and while I like Fremont Street, some of the hotels in the area have a reputation for being mediocre and even "trashy".

I was pleased to stay at the Hotel California. It appeared that the room was new or remodeled at least. The rooms were not large, but the space inside was entirely adequate. The room rate we paid for this lodging during a time when a convention was in town was quite reasonable. The restaurants and gambling facilities downstairs are not great, but are entirely adequate. Ogden Avenue is just one or two blocks away from the "light show" at Fremont Street which takes place on the hour every night. The hotel is connected by an enclosed bridge to another hotel which makes for an interesting facility.

Its not my first choice in Las Vegas. However, it was quite adequate and better than I anticipated. It is completely worthy of consideration for a traveler who wants a decent, clean room and doesn't want to spend a lot of money on it.

I had read several mixed reviews about The Cal before I booked the rooms. I spoke with a girl a the front desk named Erlinda before I booked. She was very helpful and patient with all my questions. They do not allow the front desk to make any promises before you show up, but she gave me some great tips. My friends arrived a day early and the front desk made sure when we came in we would be on the same floor. Stayed in room 1430 and had a nice view of the valley and the Main Street Station sign. Could even open the window a little to allow for some fresh air. Room was clean and updated and had a fridge and hair dryer. Wish the shutters cut out more light. Everyone we met was friendly. Bartenders Rick, Charlie and Nelson were fantastic and made us feel right at home. Will be staying again in March.
