“Great place to play.”

I lived in Vegas for 12 years but moved north of there to Elko Nv. I do wish they would open a place like the Western here . Never left there with out having a good time . They cater to the average person where the casinos here reward the big spenders with prizes and bonuses . They have the Commercial and Stockman's who seem to be having trouble attracting customers since the takeover of new owners. Elko is a great little city growing every day, however the lack of competition in the casino industry makes it easy for a couple of casinos (Gold Dust West and Red Lion to monopolize the business, but not for the conservative or less financially fit gambler. We all miss you . Carol Bage , Barbara Price , Ruth Nork

“A diversion from under the Fremont canopy”

East Fremont Street where the Western sits has had a troubled past. Long considered unsafe, the area has experienced an influx of investment and sufficient law enforcement attention to make it down right respectable. Well, almost....
The Western is about the least expensive casino downtown to play some tables or slots, have an inexpensive drink and a decent snack. The staff is vigilant and friendly and seems to keep the place much cleaner than it was in the past. It is now a viable alternative downtown where it might have been avoided before the East Fremont renaissance.
I can't vouch for the hotel, but despite its lack of elegance, the casino is worth a visit.

“The Western....This is Las vegas”

I did not stay at the hotel but i did enjoy the single deck $3 black jack games. The staff was very friendly and the comp beers for the players were abundant. Yes the place is dirty and beat up. If you want glitz and have a large bank roll go somewhere else! I f you want Cheap gambling, somewhat odd customers and friendly bartenders come on down. The place is well lit and employs some security staff that appear to be former football players so i really dont think anyone is in 'danger". The cafe looks kinda rough and i would not take a seat in the mens bathroom. But its a great time!

“No trip to Vegas is complete without a visit to the Western”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2009

I am from Texas and have been to Vegas several times. I found this place on my second visit, back in the 1990's. I would never visit Vegas without a few trips to the Western. I was in Vegas Sept. 13th thru Sept. 18th, and I think I hit this place three times. Where could you get a shot of premium tequilla and a Corona for $2.50 ? The low limit slots are so loose that if you tip the coctail waitress a buck, you would be plastered before you lost $20.00.

I am coming back to Vegas next year, with my 84 year mother and my sister, and we will make this one of our stops.
