“R.I.P.”

If you never made your way to the Western you missed out on a casino the likes will never be seen again. Was it dangerous to walk there? Maybe? Was it dangerous inside there? Maybe? Was it fun as hell? Absolutly! The walk could be sketchy for a couple of blocks and you'd be hit up to buy some "rocks" or whatever they are trying to sell, but you wouldn't get mugged. Inside it was dirty with a even filthier clientele, but that just added to the charm. Well it doesn't matter as it closed down, but for all of us who made a trip here we will always have our stories to share that no one will believe.

In mid 2009 spent 8 days at the Plaza, while we were there had to go To the Western twice, but no Bingo, just lot of good food, free drinks, and loose slots, we walk out up $650. on slots, and $175 on Blackjack, very good times!!! In July going back to Las Vegas, this time to El Cortez for a week ( last time I miss my flight lol) but planning on going back to Western will have mom along she is into bingo, I like it also, but BJ and dollar slots, will be 1st on my list. leave a review if they have bingo TY WichitaRick

“Great place to play.”

I lived in Vegas for 12 years but moved north of there to Elko Nv. I do wish they would open a place like the Western here . Never left there with out having a good time . They cater to the average person where the casinos here reward the big spenders with prizes and bonuses . They have the Commercial and Stockman's who seem to be having trouble attracting customers since the takeover of new owners. Elko is a great little city growing every day, however the lack of competition in the casino industry makes it easy for a couple of casinos (Gold Dust West and Red Lion to monopolize the business, but not for the conservative or less financially fit gambler. We all miss you . Carol Bage , Barbara Price , Ruth Nork

“A diversion from under the Fremont canopy”

East Fremont Street where the Western sits has had a troubled past. Long considered unsafe, the area has experienced an influx of investment and sufficient law enforcement attention to make it down right respectable. Well, almost....
The Western is about the least expensive casino downtown to play some tables or slots, have an inexpensive drink and a decent snack. The staff is vigilant and friendly and seems to keep the place much cleaner than it was in the past. It is now a viable alternative downtown where it might have been avoided before the East Fremont renaissance.
I can't vouch for the hotel, but despite its lack of elegance, the casino is worth a visit.
