I like to stroll along the canals of Venetian and have dinners at its St. Mark’s Square, but what I don’t like is to stay in Venetian because of its size. Every thing in Venetian is massive, from its lobby to its casino to its shopping arcade, and I don’t feel comfortable sleeping in a colossal casino. For me, the solution is Palazzo. It is the newer wing of Venetian, but it is a separate resort under the same management. Palazzo is smaller and easier to navigate and is connected to Venetian by way of a waterfall.
Both properties have only suites that are actually two openly connected rooms, with one for sleeping and the other for seating. The suites are among the best for the price anywhere. I had paid as low as the low $100s per night. While that’s mid range for the gambling capital, the suites and the overall atmosphere of Palazzo are up scale. No doubt, Palazzo is not as elegant as Wynn next door or the Bellagio across the street, but it’s not far from the top tier while it is still new. And for eats, don’t forget the Grand Lux that serves a global variety of small plates and regular size dishes in a chic atmosphere. For shopping, I would recommend the Fashion Show Mall facing Wynn, not an ordinary hometown mall.
However, beware of the $20 resort fee that’s not included in the advertised room rate. The fee is charged even if you don’t use the pool and other resort facilities. Adding a mandatory resort fee to renting a room is a trend in Las Vegas hotels that I dislike, because it gives you the feeling of being duped by false advertisement. Be that as it may, at Palazzo a “complimentary” daily newspaper and a cup of coffee are included in the fee if you ask for them at one of its designated coffee shops.
