“If your keen for a ghetto experience- this is the place.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2010

My friend and I arrived, after two EXCELLENT experiences with USA hostels in San Fransisco and Los Angeles, to a very different hostel experience. In what seemed like the middle of no where, this hostel in slap bang in the middle of danger town. We were told by several locals, including taxi drivers and some local police that the area this hostel resides in, is the crime capital of Las vegas and if we were keen to me mugged or shot at, we were in the right place! Apart from that, the breakfast was very poor, the staff were rude and unhelpful, apart from the lovely welsh guy, the beds are falling apart and the position is miles away from the strip. Just spend the extra $10 to stay closer to the infamous strip and you will have a LOADS BETTER time!

“Scary!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2010

This hostel is in a bad area of Las Vegas! Our taxi cab driver didnt know how to get there, and when we did he stated "You sure you want to stay here?" After unloading our bags he left quickly. The person at the front desk who checked us in had a black eye! There was another guest crying while talking on the phone to someone else stating she wanted to leave. So, be fore warned, this place might be fine for someone on a very tight budget, but there are rooms on the strip that are much better for about the same price. Ive been to Vegas 3 times in the past 3 years, and I will not be going anywhere near this location again!

“If you want taxi drivers to laugh at you, stay here...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2010

Got off the bus to Vegas at 2am and tried to get a taxi to the USA Hostel in Las Vegas. The first indication that we shouldn't be staying there was that when we told taxi drivers the address we were going to and they drove away from us. Finally found one who took pity on us and he preceded to tell us all about the area we were staying in and why taxi drivers were not taking us. It is in an area which is well known for muggings and prostitution. He basically told us in was dangerous to be out of our hostel after dark. When he dropped us there we were unpacking the car and a random guy walked past us, saw our bags, laughed and said "good choice".

The staff member who checked us in was very nice and helpful. However, when we got to the room the linens weren't clean, my friend found make up still on the sheets and there was blood on one of the towels in the bathroom.

We spent the night there cause it was 3am and checked out the next day and moved to a hotel on the strip. Paid a bit extra but we'd rather feel safe.

“USA Hostel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2010

The Hostal was okay, but it was far away from everything, not at all central. The pool was nice and the rooms big. There is a nice guy in the kitchen making Sandwiches. But if you want to do something in the city without spending a lot of time on waiting for the bus or walking around or a lot of money for cabs, better go somewhere else

“Very cheap with good transport nearby but not the best location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2010

I stayed for two days, and booked a female dorm room - there were 10 beds but it was only about half filled. There were lockers provided in the rooms with powerpoints inside.
The hostel provides heaps of free information regarding sightseeing and transportation, as well as free attractions on the Strip. Its in the common room for everyone to see which was really helpful to me. They have fast internet but you have to pay, can't remember how much. They also had a pool which would be really good in summer as it gets so hot there. Breakfast is all you can make pancakes included which was good.
There weren't really any social events held while I was there, which I had hoped for as I was travelling solo, but ended up making friends with a few girls in my room anyway. I had also wanted to do one of their tours, which was a shopping trip out to the outlets but not enough people signed up so they cancelled it which was disappointing.
The location is good really only from the point of view that it is close to the Greyhound station, as it was only about a fifteen minute walk. However, it is located on Fremont Street which is the old strip, but about a five to ten minute walk down past the main part, so can be a bit dangerous for a solo female, I didn't particularly feel safe at night. However if you're only going to Vegas for a short while it is worth it to spend a little extra and stay on The Strip.
