“BAD LOCATION, DID NOT FEEL SAFE!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

This Hostel may be cheap but I would now looking back pay the extra money to stay on the strip especially if like us you want to be on the strip all the time. Like the other reviews, we did not feel safe here. The location is right in the Ghetto and we were warned by taxi drivers and people on the bus not to walk down after dark but it was scary enough walking up and down during the day.

Not only is the location unsafe but it is also miles away from the strip, you cannot walk especially in the August heat, and the duce bus takes forever as it is always stopping and starting, although it is very handy if you are staying on the strip. During the day we got the bus to the strip and back and then walked down 11 streets to the hostel but once we were changed and ready to go back out we got taxis which i would definitley recomened you do. for your own safety.
There are tramps everywhere, drug dealers, prostitutes, and we even saw a naked old man masturbating!
Although they lock the hostel at night the rooms are not safe and could have easily been broken into. The breakfast is rubbish, not worth it.

The staff in the hostel were pleasant enought, however they had mixed up our booking when we arrived, and a two days later we saw some girls in reception who's booking had also been mixed up. We went on the Grand Canyon trip which was booked through the hostel which was really good and would recommend.

Las Veags itself is amazing. I will be back...however will defo not even consider staying in or around the same area as USA hostel.

“Arrogant service and poor facilities!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2011

It may be cheap, but it seems the reasons for this are obvious. 1: It´s located in a rough neighbourhood so hold on to your belongings when heading for the strip! 2: Their facilities are extremely worn. They do have a pool, but this was unfortunately not working the only day we were there! As a solution, the absolutely arrogant and non-caring staff suggested we cheat ourselves into the pool at the Golden Nugget 10 blocks away. Yeah right, good idea. Their common area featuring a pool table (huge tear in the cloth and broken cues) and a jukebox (takes the money, but won´t play) are ready for the dumpster. 3: By the way, it´s not really that cheap. On our way there we saw several motels with rates as low as 26 bucks. So, we can´t really recommend this hostel to anybody. Period.

“Great hostel just be smart about when you go out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2011

The hostel was fantastic The staff and atmosphere were amazing and so friendly and helpful. There was a shuttle that came and did designated drop offs down to the strip and lots of hostel organized activities. Me and a friend had never stayed in a hostel before and we were a little worried after reading the reviews. However there was not one time that i fel unsafe inside the hostel! If you plan on going out during the daytime! no problem, but night time yes its a little sketchy just be smart about it and grab a cab and be smart when talking to randoms on the street!. Other than the unfortunate area its located its not to far from the strip and the accommodation itself was great! Exceeded my expectations! Im already looking forward to my next trip back! I defiantly wont be bothered to even look or spend my money at a hotel right on the strip I had a Blast!

“Awesome.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2011

We only stayed 3 nights and we did so much stuff thanks to this hostel. We didn't plan on going to the Grand Canyon, but thanks to las Vegas hostel, we could, they organise everything for you! We arrived on a Friday night and we were planning on going straight to sleep, but then we were told it was 'club night', this included CHEAP drinks and live bands at a local bar, then we were taken to an AWESOME club on the 64th floor and then to the strippers in a LIMO!! on saturday night we had an hour bus ride in a PARTY BUS called Big Red, it has two stripper poles and awesome music! There is free pancakes every morning! There is a bbq area next to the pool, the pool is kept clean and in great condition. We stayed in a private king room, very cheap prices. The room was clean, with crisp sheets and you could tell the bathroom had been cleaned prior.
The staff were AWESOME. they are SO friendly and helpful. Yes, this hostel is down town and everyone complains that the area is dangerous, but its all apart of the experience and it wasn't even that bad! A couple of hookers- big deal. If you get a front room, you get front row reality tv, for freeeeeeeeeee!

Oh and we also had free wireless internet for our iphone/laptop, it was fast too :)

You should totally stay here!

“i need you to read this for your own safty”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2011

Prior to staying in this hostel I have stayed in LA, San Diego and San Fran and never did I not feel safe, until I came here to this hostel.

Walking home at 11 am after a long night of partying and gambling on the strip I was drunk and chatty. I got talking to a big african-american guy that told me he was in a local gang and that this place is dangerous as hell. His name was 'insane' he told me. He said I was 'cool' coz I was Irish and he liked Irish people but to be careful and not to be talking to people on the street all drunk like I was doing. After this he offered to sell me cocaine and I declined.

1 minute after leaving 'Insane' I walked by the liquer store where a gang of about 7 people were standing. When they saw me coming they stared callin me a 'bi*ch' and a 'white boy' trying to get me to react.. I was really freaked out by this.

I finally got back to the hostel and slept for about 16 hours.

After I woke and went to reception I saw the american guy that worked there had brusies and cuts on his face. He had been mugged and beaten the same day and had his head kicked when he was down.

The area is so not safe with proper street gangs and scum bags everywhere..

Don't be stupid like I was and get drunk and think you can walk to the hostel from freemont street experience, even during the day.

I think the hostel would be good during the summer as the pool looks cool and the BBQ. When I was there in December there were only 4, yes 4, people staying in the entire hostel.
