Stayed 3 nights at Harrah's on the Strip in the Carnival Tower. Got a fairly good rate on a "Mini Suite" so we booked 3 nights Harrah's, then 2 nights at the Golden Nugget.
First - The Good:
We got in around 11 pm Sunday and got checked in quickly and easily thanks to Meshan at the front desk. We've been to Vegas 15 times and she is CLEARLY the best front desk person ever. If I ran a resort, I would definitely try to steal her away - she's pleasant, efficient friendly and cheerful - an amazing person.
Room was nice-sized, updated, and very nice. The bed was comfortable, and the rooms were the quietest we've stayed in, which is a big plus. The Carnival tower is fantastic, as the casino is pretty decent and the location is STELLAR! If you want to be on the Strip, you can't beat it. The rooms are not as plush as Caesar's, but they're larger AND you can get out and hit the casino or be on the strip in a couple of minutes. My other big plus for them is their valets are lightning fast. We went to no less than 10 casinos and none were nearly as quick and friendly as Harrah's.
THE BAD!
We got into room and it was 80 degrees - called the desk and were told it's motion activated cooling. If no one is in room, no air flow. Drank and gambled until 2 am, etc.. next moring 78 degrees. We moved to a smoking room the next evening (again, thank you Meshan) to find it at 80 degrees. We were assured it would cool down (uh huh, sure).
Next morning 78 degrees. Called again - desk said she'd send someone while we were out. (NO idea if anyone tried.) Got in at 2am ... yup 78 degrees. Called desk, were told they "took care of it" and it would cool down. I hung up. Woke up to ... 78 degrees. Called again, they said it would be taken care of.
Left for the day, got in at 2am again, 79 degrees. Wife called and BEGGED (as I laughed in the background) and to my surprise a maintenance man got there in FIVE minutes and fixed it!!!! I didn't get his his name but he was great. The temp was below 70 in about 10 minutes. Of course, we had to check out 9 hours later so I can't give a great review.
If you want to stay on the strip, Harrahs or Flamingo are really the best "nice" option for the price, provided you get an updated room. (The older rooms are NOT great.) But frankly, our stay at the Golden Nugget was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better and we may stay on Fremont street instead on the nest trip, as the Strip casinos are just getting too pricey and their gambling odds are now too much in favor of the house.
