“Desert Oasis”

For more than 30 years, my wife and I have enjoyed visiting Cactus Pete's Resort in Jackpot, Nevada once or twice each year. As we have aged, we have watched this resort grow and improve as our demand for comfort and pleasure has grown.

The hotel has large rooms with great tv's. Bathrooms are a little small but very adequate. The King bed was very solid (that means hard), but after a long day or drive, still comfortable.

The hotel registration staff are great, both efficient and quick. The casino staff really work to make you feel welcome. The staff at the main craps table are great at learning everyone's names and then using your name during the game. Not that you really want to leave too much money in the game, but, it does not hurt as much when they are so nice.

Before you look at a week long vacation in the desert, please note that Jackpot is a one and a half horse town. During the season the golf can be fun, too. But, don't look for lots of other activities or shows in this town. This resort does have periodic headliner style entertainment in their Gala Showroom. Their website is a good resource for scheduled future entertainment. Over the years, we have seen entertainers such as Moe Bandy and Willie Nelson at their venue.

Bottom line, for two or three days Cactus Pete's can be lots of fun. Longer stays can be very reasonable as their weekday hotel room rate is very affordable.

Room Tip: Blackout curtains are very effective in letting you sleep in.

“A Weekend Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Stayed here many times but our last stay in the "older" Granite rooms were fitted with outdated furnishings (including one of those older television sets you'd find in a motel or the Horseshu), worn carpeting and beds. Admittedly it was clean (even for a smoking room) but not as nice as those in the Granite Tower and did not have wifi like the tower rooms. The tower rooms were completely sold out so we settled for the "older section". On the positive side, it came with a balcony, was on the ground floor (great if you have children in your party ) and overlooks the pool area which must be nicer during any other season but winter. This is okay for a weekend getaway and if you don't spend too much time in the room.

Room Tip: Stay in the newly renovated "TOWER" rooms. There is an EXCELLENT seafood buffet offered o...

“Disappointed.”

This review is about the Easter buffet. Very disappointing. Very expensive for nothing special. We had hoped for some sort of traditional easter foods: ham etc. No, just the regular stuff. We paid $25.00 each for the buffet which included a sparking Zinfandel that they happily called Champagne. We will consider alternatives before doing that again.

We often stay at the RV park one or two nights. The RV park is well kept and convenient.

I can't speak to last year's Easter Buffet, but I can assure you that this year our chef will be preparing a carved ham along with other traditional Easter offerings. We hope that you give us another shot for the holiday.

“1st Time and Pleasantly Surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

We are usually towing an RV through Jackpot, so had not experienced hotel. Always felt the casino was a bit worn out. This visit was very different. Hotel room was newly remodeled and very nice and clean. Quiet too. Upon check-in we received free buffet vouchers and again, we were pleasantly surprised on quality of food. Although room rate was a bit high, a free meal balanced it out a bit. Casino had also been improved somewhat, so all in all, a very nice stay.

Room Tip: Tower rooms are newly renovated

“Great Get-a-way!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

Cactus Petes Resort Casino understands what it takes to keep people coming back. Check in was easy and pleasant, the room was clean and quiet and my biggest complaint was not winning any money! We did have a gurgling sound in the bathroom from the tub and sink. It would make the gurgling sounds when we were not even using the shower or sink. When taking a shower, the water was very slow to drain. We were on the 6th floor and we had family on that stayed on the 3rd floor. They also experienced it. Eventually, it will have to be dealt with so in the future it may not be a problem. Otherwise, the room was very clean and extremely comfortable! The rooms in the tower have been remodeled and are very modern and attractive. The coffee pot in the room was your typical pot, however they gave us real mugs to drink from! Definitely a +1 in my book! The dinner buffet is huge and expensive. I personally felt the food choices were all expensive, so it may just be me. For four people for the buffet it was $95, which was the weekend price on sea food night. The average plate in the cafe was around $10. I understand that is the prices people normally pay, however at a casino, there is generally a break. Maybe those days are gone. Cactus Petes does a great job in marketing the slots and the casino is very well laid out. They constantly bring in new slots and the drink ladies did a great job. Despite the smoking in the casino, the ventilation system kept the atmosphere tolerable. Cactus Petes is a great get-a-way any time and we always have a great time!

Room Tip: Book early, as they usually fill up on the weekends!
