We stayed there as a 'rest' stop on the long drive from California to Idaho. Strickly to replenish and water the camels. Little evidence of the problems mentioned in previous reviews. Did mention bad publicity to desk staff and they said they were aware and making efforts to correct. In the morning saw many staff cleaning, sweeping, gardening, etc so looks like they are trying.
Room was very large & clean. Dated decor, but what isn't in Elko. Tip - the AC unit operates from hard to see thermostat on wall, not controls on unit (found out next AM). Didn't try the restuarant, as the Red Lion is directly across the street. Speaking of which, the Gold Country is not a casino. Few slots in lobby - AM / PM has more. BUT, The Red Lion is handy and has the full Casino fare.(including $1 BlackJack - $300 limit which will probably keep you up all night). FYI - the Gold Country and Red Lion apparently are commonly owned. GC was $40 less than RLon this night.
So, bottom line - not a destination resort but sure OK for a mid-trip stopover. The place was fine!
