While attending the recent Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada, we stayed at the Esquire Motel - one of the older-styled motels with a great neon sign and located within walking distance to the Old Pioneer Hotel/Western Folklife Center; Capriola's - famous western store since the 1920's; Stockman's & The Commercial casino's - as well as a couple of nearby watering holes/saloons - this motel is in the heart of town.
The rooms are compact, furnished nicely, and very clean. Pets are allowed and of course, smoking rooms are available. We stayed in a smoking room and the room was kept odor free! The beds are nice and firm (we had a king); televisions have remotes; plenty of storage space, refridgerators and microwaves, and continental breakfast.
Small downsides were: Those little, itty-bitty soaps provided; thin walls between rooms, not enough parking when full. Staff is very accommodating, but do have some problems w/language as there was a mix-up in our reservations, which was cleared up by the next day = they put our friends in an upstairs room first night, when our reservation was made, it was for a downstairs room. Our friends room on the first night, had a problem with the heater....the owner promptly brought them a plug in heater, which worked fine. No shampoo, lotion, or shower caps are provided.
Snow is promptly cleared from parking lots in mornings. Reading lights are provided for both sides of beds. All windows look out onto the main drag of town.
