“My Doggies and I LOVE IT!!!”

I have been staying here for decades...usually in the winter to ski at Northstar (15 minutes drive). I love that my partner and I can bring our dog for $20.00 extra. The cottages are dog friendly...and smell very clean when we arrive. Yes, the hotel is old...as old as I (65 years young)...but for $39.00 a nite, $2.00 cocktails, great steaks at Conrad's, yummy breakfasts at the cafe, loose slots, and very friendly staff...we LOVE it...plus a clean hot tub/spa :) I worked at San Francisco Hyatt for 38 years...if you want to pay a couple hundred a night...Tahoe Hyatt is your best bet, but for me it is the quaint Tahoe Biltmore!!!

“Worst Hotel Experience EVER”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS HOTEL WAS AWEFUL! From the VERY beginning, our experience with this hotel/staff was horrible. We experienced a one-hour check in (only one SLOW gal working the front desk), and we were in a "cottage." These are terrible rooms! You hear every sound outside or around you. Our room had wet/damp floors, the bathroom window was frozen open overnight, no light switches worked, smoke detector not up to code, very poor service by security because he was clocking out for the night. A staff member was to assist us with putting chains on our car...they NEVER showed up.

PLEASE STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE...UNLESS YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO.

The cafe was very good and the staff there were great.

In response to this review the Tahoe Biltmore would like to clarify a few things. On an extremely busy night our check in process can take up to 15 minutes. We do understand that many of our guests have been traveling or skiing all day and are tired and just want to get to a room ASAP. We do everything in our power to facilitate this process in a timely fashion. We do recall a service call about a frozen window which was remedied within minutes. All of our smoke detectors are checked frequently by maids, staff and engineering. In regards to our security, we are a casino and we do have 24 hour security and surveillance. Tire chains are the personal responsibility of the vehicle owner. We do not advertise that hotel staff is responsible for vehicle maintenance.

My relationship with the biltmore began in the late 70's as a guest and later employee.
It was the nevada lodge then. Its quirky and not a lot of glitz. You have to go down to the hyatt for that. No spa treatment here. But it has a small town local flavor that makes you feel part of your wonderfull envirement.while there....there slots are the best there food for the price is great.....and the free breakfast with your stay is great...they dont chinze on the freebies. If you take the time to engage in friendley conversation with the employees.
and that includes bartenteders, waitresses and dealers.....they can turn you on to treasured local favorites. Treat them well ....always They work very hard. They sacrafice a lot to live up there. There purists who love the lake....like you tip well

“CHEAP....AT WHAT PRICE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

Stayed at the Tahoe Biltmore after a long day at the Reno Air Races anticipating a nice day the next day touring around Lake Tahoe and hitting our favorite beach. We had a coupon for $35.00 room and decided to use it. We were placed across the street from the main building in the motel. 1st floor. Room was clean and non-smoking which is a plus but very dated. We went across the street to the main casino/hotel to have dinner and a few drinks...BIG MISTAKE. Dinner was nothing special and over priced, then we went into the bar for a few drinks and were totally ignored by the bartender. There were maybe 5 other patrons in the bar.' He walked by us numerous times and didn't even acknowledge our existence. We walked out thirsty and went across the street to the Crystal Bay Club. After returning to our room at about 1200am only to find out they had rented the upstairs room to a heard of elephants. Loud creaky floor and heard everything. After barely sleeping we checked out in the morning and went out on our adventure of the day. Later in the day we decided we would try the Biltmore again for another night and request an upstairs room. We should have learned from the previous nights experience. Room was upstairs from the room we had the previous night. We once again went over to the main hotel/casino to try to get some cocktails. Once again, same treatment. Bartender acted like he never saw us, finally after about 10 minutes we got a short pour drink at much to expensive of a price. And forget about getting another, 20 minutes after my first drink was gone I still hadn't been offered another. Out we went leaving no tip, after all why tip for rotten service? Upon returning to our room around 1200 again we found they had rented the room below us (the same room we had the previous night) to a group of partyers. It was a 1 bed room with at least 8-10 people in it. They were loud obnoxious drunk kids, probably not of age. When we went to call security after listening to them for 2 hours, the phone in the room was inoperable. This loud party continued until about 6 Am when they finally left. After trying to give the Tahoe Biltmore one more chance to redeem them selves for the previous nights shortcomings, we vowed never, ever again will we stay there no matter how cheap. The place needs a complete overhaul from the staff to the rooms and I don't see that happening anytime soon. My advice, DON'T DO IT!!!!

“This sad Lady is a slippping, sinking ship.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

This used to a great Lady of a hotel. It is now pieced together as tho there was a feeble attempt to remodel,.. patch that up, then just GIVE UP ! It was a hunt to find put upon floor workers. Bartenders seem to run between bars to work. Scarce ,or no ice for rooms, couldn't get fed. . One eve, the overwrought ,understaffed hostess was almost in tears. I tried to cash a "Wells Fargo travelers check" to eat, but their policy had just changed to NOT cashing ANYTHING, The cashiers were taciturn and tight- lipped about that one !! SO no $,no food.again. No Bartender.. couldn't get a beer. Took 3 days for me to see a security guard , but he was polite, apologetic , No remote to TV. So NO TV. If they tell you it is "no smoking", BS. Through the thick haze of smoke I learned guests can smoke right outside their rooms. Cigarette haze loomed thick and foul. Many rooms had full blast parties going noon till 2am. A party free for all!! It was uncomfortable. There were a couple nicely decorated rooms inside. DO NOT STAY AT THE ONCE RUSTIC CABINS. The Biltmore must be really desperate as they rent these sweet, old units in the trees to large Wedding from Hell(etc) parties and to a whole, fleets of, bellowing ,brawling drunk, foul mouth, chain smoking, fighting construction workers and their loose, shrieking groopies. Usually the havoc wound it up around 3 am. At least these characters were too cheap to drink inside However the whole, lovely Pine tree hill of cabins was dotted with yelling, fighting.,boozing, cigarette haze, butts and general intimidating Frat type noise and antics... Security later said they were making rounds , but I swear, the frenzy escalated as the night went on w/ trips back from the liquor store.. So if you go cuz it is convenient, cheap and near the"happening phoenix" "The Crystal Bay Club" Interrogate Biltmore Staff completely BEFORE you hand over you dough, get names, Tip a security guard. Ferret out where the "secrete, hidden ice machine" is as the "ONLY other one on the 3RD.floor is often empty. The Crystal Bay once was on the down swing, It is now the "place to go" Perhaps as in the past, some sentimental, wealthy, , benevolent business patron will take it over and it can be the fun, classy Lovely, laughing Lady of long ago . I hope to forget this recent debacle and return to the Biltmore memory of long ago..But I will not return.
